George Cathey, 89, of Dyersburg, died Friday, March 10, 2023 at his residence. Born July 24, 1933, he is the son of the late Major Montgomery and Lacy Rivers Cathey. He was the owner of George Cathey Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. Mr. Cathey proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean era. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He served as Scout Master for Troop 88 for over 20 years.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 14, 2023 conducted by Reverend Loren Stephens in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Donald “Donnie” Wayne Bryan, 76, of Dyersburg, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 9, 2023 at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg. He was born in Alamo, TN on March 21, 1946 to L.D. and Lillian Ellis Bryan. Donnie attended Dyersburg High School and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, proudly serving his country overseas during the Vietnam War. Throughout his life, Donnie was rarely spotted without USMC attire or dcor.

After completing his military service, he married Janice Lynn Webb in 1970 and adopted her two-year-old son Marc. While both went on to remarry, Donnie and Jan remained friends.

Louise Owsley, 99, of Dyersburg, TN passed away on Monday March 6, 2023 at her residence.

She was born on October 26, 1923 in Friendship, TN to the late John and Georgia Reynolds Cobb. Louise and her late husband, James Owsley, started Owsley's Fish Market & Café in 1956. Together they also owned and operated the Owsley Ice Company for many years here in Dyersburg. Louise enjoyed gardening, flowers and canning. She loved to share her passion of flowers with anyone and everyone and because of that she has flowers blooming all over this area. Louise and James also grew a huge garden every year and was proud to have over an acre of okra every year. She also enjoyed sewing dolls and clothes for her family and was an avid collector of Teapots, with over 135 in her collection. Louise was a member of The Church of Nazarene.

She was born on June 27, 1935, in Newbern, TN, to the late Sam Thomas Pack and the late Evie Ellar Newsome Pack. Juanita worked for Morris Glove Factory in Newbern for 7 years. She then went on to work for Sylvania until she retired. Later, Juanita went to work for the Northwest Tennessee Correctional Complex for 15 years, where she was the first woman in Tennessee to become Sergeant. After her retirement from NWTCC, she managed Eagle Wood Apartments. Juanita then went on to work for Wal-Mart for 14 years.

He was born on July 20, 1970, in Union City, TN, to Willard Wade Hearn and Teresa Ladd Willis. Kelly taught English and Economics at Hainan College of Business and was presented an award for Outstanding Foreign Teacher. He was a freelance journalist for several years when he lived in Argentina and was a staff writer for the Washington Times, which was funded by Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. Kelly's freelance articles have appeared in the Washington Post, The Nation Yale 360, National Geographic News, The Christian Science Monitor and the Virginia Quarterly Review. He also published a book of short stories under a pen name, Sick and Tired of it All by Karl Henley. Kelly received the Reed Community Award for Whuhan Military Games for teaching English to volunteers of military games.

Suzanne E. Donner, 74, of Franklin, formerly of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at her residence. Born July 20, 1948, she is the daughter of the late R.E. “Dick” Donner and Martha Wheeler Donner Borthwick. She is the granddaughter of the late R.H. Wheeler. Sue described herself as her fathers spiritual heir and had a zest for life. She had a special gift of communication with all types of people and deeply touched the lives of those who knew her with her kind, caring nature and generous ways. She loved and lived the music, loved animals and football, loved helping out her friends, loved the peace of the seashore and was comfortable with herself and her God. She went to school in Dyersburg, Philadelphia, Memphis and Florida. She attended the University of Alabama and the University of Tennessee. She traveled extensively meeting many people before settling down in Franklin with her soul mate, Larry Pierce. She treasured her many musical memories she made over the years. Sue adored her hillside property while watching the huge expansion in the Nashville area.

He was born June 1, 1936 to the late Dick & Daisy Willis. He served in the Unites States Army as a radio operator and spent his career as a sales route manager for Hart Bread Co. & Little Debbie. In retirement, he loved being the delivery driver for C&C Pharmacy.

He was a lifelong lover of sports, especially baseball, as a Saint Louis Cardinal & Tennessee Volunteer fan. He shared that love as a youth baseball coach for many years. He travelled across the country as a competitive team bowler and also enjoyed fishing. He was a life-long member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

Daniel Howard Shelton

Daniel Howard Shelton, 84, was born May 27, 1938 in Blountsville, Alabama. He went peacefully to be with the Lord from his home in the Poplar Grove community near Halls, Tennessee on February 16, 2023. Dan was employed by Tupperware Company from 1968 until his retirement in 1992 as Molding Room Superintendent. He was faithful member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church for over 60 years. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing gospel music with his daughter, Lori. His southern gospel quartet, The Chapel Lights, performed frequently in local area churches in the 1970s. He loved hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors, cooking, gardening, selling fresh vegetables and hosting family softball games on Sunday afternoons at his home. In his later years he enjoyed gathering and preparing pecans to share with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vanda Davis Shelton and daughter, Lori Shelton Longest (Dr. Bruce Longest) of Bruce, Mississippi. Additional survivors are sisters Lucy Chamberlian (Tom Chamberlian) of Rockford, Illinois and Hazel Adams (Pat Adams) of Oneonta, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Jiles Washington Shelton; four sisters: Roverta Slaughter, Juanita Foote, Margaret Thomas, and Joyce Kirk and two brothers; J.W.
