She was currently working on her Bachelor's Degree at the University of Memphis.

Sylvia Lee Shaw (nee Laird), devoted wife and mother, died peacefully in her home on December 18, 2017 in Ridgely, TN. She was 77.

Sylvia was born on June 23, 1940 in Tiptonville, TN to her parents, Andrew Wesley and Freddie Lee Laird. She graduated from Tiptonville High School in 1958, and attended Union University. She married James Hall Shaw in 1961. The Shaws moved to their home on Headden Drive, from where James Hall and Sylvia raised their family, and farmed. James Hall and Sylvia were happily married for 49 years.

Perry also leaves 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Perry Allen Riley, two brothers, Rev. Larry Riley, Mark Riley and a sister, Diane Carmack. Perry was a member of Archer's Chapel Methodist Church and a member of the West TN Emmaus Community. In 1998 he earned the "Superior Service Award" from the Tennessee Valley Region Association of Demonstration Farm Families, which he, along with his family, took great pride in. Robert was also a United States Army Veteran. He is survived by his wife: Sue (Roberson) Hill two sons: Jeff (Karen) Hill and Russell (Connie) Hill. Both of Gates, TN. Brother of one sister: Martha J. Taylor of Sun City, AZ. Robert also leaves 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 2 sisters, Linda Hill Gibbs Winkles and Toy Ann Hosmer. One of his accomplishments during his military service was as a Chinese interpreter. Doug was an attorney and member of the First United Methodist Church.

James Marvin Stephens, 74, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at Tennova Healthcare Dyersburg Regional. Born December 9, 1942, he was the son of the late Arlie Sr. and Lucille Stephens. He was retired from Dyersburg Electric System and a member of Tucker Street Church. He was a former employee of Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Edenton Lamb. He was a Dyer County Master Gardener volunteer for 10 years and spent many happy hours in the kitchen, sharing his homemade breads, canned goods and chocolate dipped strawberries with family and friends. James Marvin was a volunteer at the Bogota Community Center and was an avid fisherman.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Don Layman. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery at a later date.

?John Warren Burris, 102, died Tuesday December 5, 2017 at his daughter's home in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Born Wednesday November 24, 1915 in Cedar County, Missouri, he was the son of the late William Hiram Burris and the late Lillie Maude Stephens Burris. As a teenager, John left home to find work during the Great Depression, making his way to California where he worked as a farm laborer, ranch hand, and for many years in the lumber industry in northern California. While living in San Diego, he was working at Consolidated Aircraft when Pearl Harbor was attacked. On January 2, 1942, John enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving over three years in the Pacific, and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina when the Second World War ended. Returning to California, he owned various businesses, worked for Ventura County Department of Weights and Measures for several years, and participated in Poinsettia Masonic Lodge. On April 20, 1957 he and Carolyn Hope Ainley were married in Woodlake, California. In March 1961 he moved his family to Stockton, Missouri where he operated a cattle ranch. Following the family's return to Woodlake, California in June 1973, he built the family home, and participated in Visalia Toastmasters Club, Tulare County Genealogical Society, and Woodlake Presbyterian Church. In March 2004, John and Hope moved to Alturas, California where Hope died January 25, 2012. John moved to Dyersburg in August 2014.

He is survived by two daughters, Melodee Chapman and husband Willis of Dyersburg, Tennessee and Carolyn Hughes and husband John of Alturas, California; seven grandchildren Nathan Chapman and fiancee Erin Carrillo, Jacob Hughes and girlfriend Arien Church, Bethany Mayo and husband Josh, Janel Godfrey and husband Tanner, Ben Chapman and wife Laura, John Hughes Jr. and wife Camie, and Hannah Ashworth and husband Jake; six great-grandchildren Ezra Wallis Mayo, Jenna Elizabeth Godfrey, Silas Andrew Mayo, Jarrett Elijah Godfrey, Evelyn Hope Chapman, and Ainley Ann Mayo. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Dr. Richard Ainley of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Frank Ainley of Woodlake, California, a cousin Gerald Stephens of Bolivar, Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.

Lilly and Annie Lee Crowder. Owen served in the Army National Guard, was a Pastor and former Professor of Psychology at UT Martin. He is survived by two daughters: Brandi Bennett of Atoka, TN and Brookelynn Ann Lilly of Halls, TN, and two sons: Owen Dwight Lilly II of Ripley, TN and Chet Austin Lilly of Ripley, TN,; his mother Annie Lee Crowder of gates TN; Brother of two sisters: Judith Campbell of SanTan Valley, AZ and Shirley Skipper of Choctaw, OK. Owen is also survived by 2 Grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held at the Tabernacle Of Praise, 123 North Front St. in Halls TN. at 3pm. on Saturday Dec. 2, 2017.

Jerry Wayne attended First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Buck Tarpley Life Group, but he was a lifetime member of Finley United Methodist Church. He was a retired automobile dealer and was known for his lifelong love of buying, selling, racing, and collecting cars. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 26, 2017 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Mike Hickman. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 26th beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Born January 10, 1930, in Lynn, Massachusetts to the late Ivan Lawrance and Mary Josephine Hayes Tanner, Barbara lived in Florida and Minnesota before her family settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There she graduated from Bayview High School and attended University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. While living in Rockville, Maryland, she completed her associate degree at Montgomery College. She met her husband, Donald Richard Kitzrow, while working at Allen Bradley Corporation in Milwaukee. They married in 1954. Donald preceded her in death in 1988. Barbara was a seamstress, knitter, gardener and lover of reading. Her yard and flowerbeds were a source of pride at each of her many homes, which included residences in Wisconsin, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland and Tennessee.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 18, 2017 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Corey D. Williams with inurnment to follow at 2:00 p.m. in Highland Memorial Gardens in Jackson, TN.
