Corrections and clarifications
Dyer County News corrects the record. This page explains how to report an error, what we do when we receive a report, and lists every correction and clarification we have published, newest first.
How to report an error
Email editor@dyercountynews.com with:
- the link to the story,
- the specific statement you believe is wrong, and
- the document, record, or source that shows the correct information.
You do not need to be the subject of a story to report an error. Reports from readers, sources, and the people we write about are all handled the same way. If you ask for confidentiality, we protect your identity.
What happens next
An editor reviews every report against the underlying record: the filing, court document, audit, dataset, or recording the story was built on. We may contact you for more detail. If the reporting holds up, we tell you why. If we got it wrong, we act on it as soon as the review is complete, and we do not wait for a story to be stale before fixing it.
How we publish corrections
- Corrections fix errors of fact. We edit the story, add a dated note at the bottom stating what was wrong and what changed, and list the correction on this page.
- Clarifications address statements that were accurate but incomplete or open to misreading. They are handled the same way and labeled as clarifications.
- Updates add new information to a developing story. Updates are not corrections and are noted within the story itself.
- Headlines, photo captions, and social media posts are corrected in the same way as story text. Where a post cannot be edited, we post a follow-up.
- We do not remove published stories. A story is taken down only when required by law, and a note stays in its place saying so.
Corrections log
This log begins October 2026. No corrections or clarifications have been issued since then. Each entry will show the date, the story, what was wrong, and what we changed.
Our broader reporting standards are described in our editorial standards, and our team and coverage on the about page.
