KENTON, TN — Two young girls were found shot to death inside a Kenton home Saturday, and their mother was discovered nearby with stab wounds, according to an official statement released Saturday by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The TBI identified the victims as Landrie Harris, age 1, and McKenna Young, age 11. Kenton Police officers responding to a call at a residence in the 300 block of Jan Lynn Street found both children deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. The children’s mother was located at the scene with stab wounds and was transported to Regional One Health in Memphis, where she was listed in critical condition as of Saturday afternoon.
The TBI said it was called into the case at the request of 27th Judicial District Attorney General Colin Johnson. TBI agents are working jointly with the Kenton Police Department and the Obion County Sheriff’s Office.
“Investigators have been working diligently,” TBI Public Information Officer Kim Wheeler-Elder said in a statement. “The investigation remains active and ongoing.”
Kenton Mayor Danny Jowers addressed residents directly in a statement released Saturday afternoon.
“I feel as the Mayor of Kenton I should update everyone about this horrific event that occurred this afternoon,” Jowers wrote. “There are two children deceased and the mother of these children in serious condition at a hospital.”
Jowers said the decision was made to bring in the TBI to lead the investigation and described a lasting toll on the officers who responded.
“It is a crime scene that my officers of KPD as well as other first responders will never be able to ever forget,” he wrote. “Please pray for all involved and remember God has wrapped his loving arms around those children and they will never be harmed again.”
The mayor directed all media inquiries to the TBI.
No suspect has been identified publicly. No charges have been announced.
