Survived by his wife: Linda Kay (Prater) Spencer, two daughters: Rose Ann Spencer of Ripley, TN, Tracy Annette Hankins of Ripley, TN and two sons: Jesse Spencer of Ripley, TN, Gary Spencer of Ripley, TN, Brother of five sisters: Liz Holland of Newbern, TN, Bonnie McBroom of Ripley, TN, Martha Spencer of Ripley, TN, Dorothy Newlin of Ripley, TN, Wilma Spencer of FL and six brothers: John Spence of AL, Jimmy Spencer of IN, James Spencer of Halls, TN, William Spencer of Ripley, TN, Robert Spencer of SC, Danny Spencer of Ripley, TN Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 at Halls Funeral Home, Halls, TN. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 pm at Halls Funeral Home. Interment will be Wednesday in Prater Family Cemetery, Ripley. Mr. Delmer Eugene McNeil, Jr., age 32, died Monday, December 19, 2011 at The Med in Memphis. He was a member of Three Oaks Chapel. Delmer played baseball for Dyersburg High School from 1994-1998. In 1998 he was named Tennessee District Player of the year and First Team All-State. He played for the 1998 Memphis BFI Tigers. Delmer played for Jackson State Community College (1998-2000) and University Tennessee Martin (2000-2001). He coached the Full Count Falcons and Dyersburg Dixie Youth Baseball. He was a mentor to countless youth sharing his love of baseball and life with tireless energy and passion. He was the founder of Full Count Baseball Academy where he taught baseball and softball fundamentals of hitting, pitching and fielding. He was also a hitting device creator and inventor, always looking for ways to improve the game he loved better. Funeral services will be at 1pm Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Three Oaks Chapel conducted by Reverend Bill Phipps. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ruth was born April 3, 1912, the daughter of Joe and Varina Carter of Wynnburg, TN. She was the widow of Colonel James Norman Olhausen of Ridgely, TN, the love of her life, whom she married May 18, 1934. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bruce McDaniel of Raleigh, NC and her daughter-in-law, Jackie, Mrs. James Norman Olhausen, Jr. of Sandy, UT, five grandchildren, Clayton McDaniel, Noel McDaniel Currin, wife of Kevin Currin, Scott McDaniel, Heather Olhausen Roth, Jillian Olhausen and four great-grandsons, Nathan and Issac McDaniel, twin 15 year olds, and Vincent (12) and Devon (10) McDaniel. Her son James Norman Olhausen, Jr. preceded her in death in 2002. Ruth was on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 where her husband Jim was stationed. She was evacuated back to the US with dependent families. She loved poetry and read it to her children instead of Mother Goose. When they were stationed in Istanbul, Turkey, Ruth would out bargain the merchants in the Grand Bazaar. She often lectured on her experiences in Pearl Harbor, her travels and flower arranging. She was active in First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, AR where the family settled when Jim retired from the Army in 1967. Jim began his second career as business manager for Holy Angels Convent which owned St. Bernard's Hospital in Jonesboro. Ruth was active in the local women's garden club and enjoyed Japanese flower arranging. After Jim's death in 1983 she became a Sigma Pi sweetheart at Arkansas State University and established a scholarship for Sigma Pi freshmen. She was an avid gardener, a great storyteller and the keeper of oral family history. She was the world's loudest football fan. She loved being in her garden barefooted on summer days.
