Shirley is survived by her husband, Larry Hearod, her son Larry Timothy Hearod, Sr., her brothers; Thomas Manns, Sr. Steve and David Manns, her sister; Alice Pate and was greatly loved as "Nanny" by her grandchildren; Sara Hearod, Emily Hearod and Larry Timothy Hearod, Jr. and her six great-grandchildren. A 1973 graduate of Dyersburg High School, she cherished the lifelong friendships she formed there and was instrumental in keeping her fellow classmates connected over the years. Janie earned her bachelor’s degree from Memphis State University and retired as a medical technologist with West Tennessee Healthcare. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a loyal and devoted friend, an animal lover, and an avid gardener. She also enjoyed sharing her thoughts and creativity through her blog, “Pecan Lane.” Janie was a lifelong member of Dyersburg First United Methodist Church.

Jerry Lock

Jerry Lock, 87, formerly of Millsfield, died peacefully on Friday, May 1, 2026, at his residence in Elmwood, TN, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 2, 1938, to L C and Ophelia Seaton Lock, who preceded him in death. Jerry was a member and honorary deacon of Christ Church Baptist Fellowship in Millsfield, TN and attended Gordonsville Christian Fellowship in Gordonsville, TN.

After graduation from Dyersburg High School in 1956, he attended Murray State University and was soon recruited as a pitcher into minor league baseball. In four years, he played five seasons in the minors and rose from D-ball to AA performing mainly as a relief pitcher best known for his slider pitch. Due to an arm injury in 1961, his major league career ended before his rookie debut opportunity with the St. Louis Cardinals organization but the disciplines he acquired through baseball forever influenced his strategic decision-making skill in life.

Mrs. Reba June Bane, of Friendship, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026 at Jackson General Hospital. She was born November 5, 1937 near Finley, TN, to the late John and Jesse Grizzle. Throughout her life, Reba was a dedicated worker. In their early years, she and her husband traveled far and wide as migrant farm laborers, harvesting fruits, vegetables and other produce. She truly loved those years, seeing new places, meeting new people and enjoying life simpler pleasures. Later they settled in Dyersburg, where the worked at Sylvania Manufacturing, Kroger and Ryan's Steakhouse. She always was a devoted homemaker. Growing, cooking, canning and sharing the fruit of her labor with family and friends always brought her joy. She was very active in the ministries of the Junction Church of God where she taught Sunday School for a time. Family activities meant much to her, whether it was a trip to the mountains every year or going to her grandchildren's ballgames or other events.

Reba is survived by her daughter, Nina Robertson; and was greatly loved as "Nanny" by her grandchildren; Shannon Hill, Phillip Crawford, Heather Rodgers, Jennifer Rose, Loretta Ubal, Josh Robertson; her 16 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Douglas Loyd Fowler Jr., age 84, of Dripping Springs, TX, passed away in the early hours of the morning on April 10th in the comfort of Hospice Austin's Christopher House in Austin, TX, with no pain.

Doug was born in Dyersburg, TN on January 16, 1942 to the late, Douglas Loyd Fowler, Sr. and Maudema Fowler. Doug was straight forward and firm in his beliefs and wants. He always enjoyed laughing and share a good joke with family and friends. He was married to Linda Joan Fowler for 57 years. They lived together in Dripping Springs Texas for over 30 years before her passing. He traveled the world while serving our nation's military honorably in the Air Force for 22 years. Afterwards they traveled the country from coast to coast as a trucking team. Then with their grandchildren and children they would travel in an RV. He enjoyed traveling, eating pie, fishing, and above all spending time with his family.

Flora Ann Swims of Halls, TN passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born during the Great Depression on August 15, 1932, “Aunt Ann” as she was affectionally known by many was the oldest of eight children born to Theron and Lucille Hardy Burrough of Barr, TN.

After graduating from Halls High School in 1951 (where she earned the title of Home Economics Queen), she moved to Memphis, TN working as a bookkeeper for the Sears and Roebuck Co. After the death of her first husband, William David Hamlet, she returned to Halls working for the Henning Farm, and then as a licensed beautician for several years.

Marilyn Williams Holmes

Mrs. Marilyn Holmes, of Dyersburg, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Ascension - Saint Thomas West Hospital in Nashville, TN. She was born September 20, 1943, in Trenton, TN to the late Everard and Emily Williams. Throughout her life, she worked in various capacities including secretary for various medical businesses, preschool teacher, editor and proofreader. Her attention to detail and love of history were always key to her work. She had a passion for genealogy and research; writing several books on Dement/Holmes families. She supported the work of the local Daughters of the American Revolution chapter and the Dyer County Veterans' Assistance office as well as being an active member of the Dyer County Historical Society. For the last thirteen years, she was a volunteer as a Certified Archivist, working in the Archive's office on county legal records. She and her husband were active members of First Baptist Church in Halls, TN where she was a dedicated teacher for the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Vernon Lee Holmes, whom she married November 28, 1963. She also is survived by a son, Thomas Lee Holmes and wife, Chantelle, and a daughter, LeAnn Kunce and husband, Jim and a sister, Nancy Williams Wallace. She was loved as "Grandma" by her grandchildren, Ashley Wheeler and husband, Jon and Kimberly, Paige, Andrew and Ryan Gildersleeve and Isabella and Brandon Holmes. She has her first great-grandson, Elliott James Wheeler, son of Ashley and Jon Wheeler. She is preceded in death by her parents, Everard Holmes Williams and Emily Tyree Williams.

She was also a devoted mother and homemaker. She is remembered for her creativity, decorating, crafting clothing, crocheting baby blankets, making costumes and other expressions of love for her family, usually bright, colorful and sparkling. She was always ready to share whatever she had with others, who were in need. She was a "professional bargain shopper"- ready with a plan when visiting local thrift stores and yard sales. In her younger years, she loved music and dancing. Halloween was her favorite holiday, and her decorations were shared with everyone passing her home. Her spirit was always joyful, and she was constantly on GO.

John "Buddy" W. Davis, Ii

Mr. John W. "Buddy" Davis, II, of Memphis, passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2026 at west Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital. Buddy was born October 9, 1951 in Dyersburg to the late J.W. and Marie Davis. He was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where he studied Agriculture and was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. His career led him to work as a conductor for various railroads across the Southeast, including Illinois Central, Amtrak and others. in his free time, he enjoyed the quiet pace of fly-fishing as well as crafting wooden boat models and replicas. Time spent in local coffeeshops sharing meals and conversion brought him great joy.

Buddy is survived by his Daughter, Kristi Greer and husband, Jay, of Dyersburg, his granddaughter, Anna Greer, his sister Dena Hilliard, a niece, Hollie McAfee and husband, James and great-nephews Jacob and Logan McAfee. He is preceded in death by his parents.

He was born in Tiptonville, TN on September 29, 1946 to the late Carlis and Opal Howerton. Dennis proudly served in the United States Air Force and retired after a career of over 20 years. His service included time spent as a helicopter pilot, flying search and rescue missions, a small-arms instructor, a flight instructor at the Columbus Air Force Base and later as a Detachment Commander at the Blytheville Air Force Base. His love of flying was always a part of his life, even into his later years. He was always active in sports and activities like golf. He pursued higher education, earning Degrees in Business Administration and Biological Science and was a self-employed businessman. Dennis was a devoted husband and father, who also held his Christian faith at the forefront of his life.

Jarrod Nelson Jackson, 50 years old, passed away on March 23, 2026, at his home in Trenton, TN. Jarrod was born on April 12, 1975, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, to Thomas “Tom” Jackson and the late Barbara Nelson Jackson. Jarrod was an avid Duck Hunter and Duck Guide. He was also a master duck caller.

Jarrod, Steve Lax, and Jeff Luffman began duck hunting at the age of 15 and it became their passion throughout their lives. A great friend, Scott Talent, later became part of the duck hunting crew. He spent every winter at his duck cabin in Arkansas, guiding hunters from all over the country. He enjoyed every sunset after a long day of hunting to review his accomplishments and achievements.

Jimmy Thomas Leake, age 73, of Tiptonville, TN, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg Hospital. Born on October 27, 1952, in Ridgely, TN, he was the beloved son of the late Coy Thomas Leake and Mildred Fowler Leake.

Jimmy dedicated 41 years of his life working as a lineman at Gibson County Electric before retiring. As of to date, Jimmy was working as a substitute teacher for the Lake County School System. He also served his country in the United States National Guard for six years. His commitment to his community was evident through his volunteer work as a fireman in both Ridgely and Tiptonville, and his service on various county boards, including his role as Road Commissioner. He was also the coordinator for the music entertainment at the Annual Reelfoot Arts and Crafts.
