Peggy J. McDaniel, 78, formerly of Lenox, passed away Friday, July 19, 2019 in Martin. Born November 21, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie and Nina Mae Hutson McDaniel. She was retired from Thomas Industries. Peggy was church clerk for the Lenox Baptist Church for 30 years. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2019 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Bill Parmenter with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 23rd beginning at 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. She is survived by her daughter, Katherine McDaniel of Huntingdon; and a host of nieces and nephews to cherish her memories. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Evelyn Wiemer, Modessa McDaniel Daniels and Geraldine Wilson; and one brother, Charlie Bill McDaniel. Ruth Norman

December 19, 1931 – July 19, 2019

Ruth Lynn Bradley Norman, a life-long citizen of the Dyersburg area, has passed away July 19, 2019, in Dyersburg. She was 87. Mrs. Norman was a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ. Mrs. Norman was born in 1931 to Neely Edwin and Ruby Corley Bradley. She spent her childhood in the Finley area, then attended Dyersburg High School. A 1949 graduate of DHS, she was part of the marching band as a majorette. During this time, her winning smile helped earn her 1st runner-up to Miss Dyersburg. Ruth met Dyersburg native William T. (Bill) Norman while working at City Drug and they married in 1952. Together, they raised four children in Dyersburg. Along with Mr. Normans brother Bob, they owned and operated Normans Radio and TV Clinic for over 50 years. Through her children, Mrs. Norman was a steady presence in PTA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and other social organizations. She was always ready for fundraisers and community volunteer work in addition to her activities for the Church of Christ. Local citizens knew Ruth Norman for her bubbly laugh, red hair and generous heart. She was dedicated to enriching Dyersburg through civic activities, particularly for the arts. Mrs. Norman worked for many years with Dyersburg Community Concerts, Dyersburg Little Theater and Sweet Adelines. Her beautiful alto voice was often requested for events. She was an original member of the MacDowell Music Club of Dyersburg and remained active her entire life. Some also will remember her for the entertaining demonstrations of her folk art “dancing dolls.” Mrs. Norman is predeceased by Bill, her husband of 57 years, in addition to a brother, Robert Bradley, and two sisters, Martha B. Davis and Mary Dean Hartman. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Cynthia N. Russell, Lisa Norman, William B. Norman and Keith Norman; Joshua B. Russell, Keith E. Lay, Zovie Najarian, Bella Norman and Lola Norman. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday, July 22, 2019 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Scott Owen with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Kevin Norman, Burnie Norman, Josh Russell, Dan Davis, Spence Lowery and Carl Schultz will serve at pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 21st from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Charles William "Charlie" Taylor, age 79, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born, August, 2 1939 in Lauderdale County to the late James Taylor and the late Katie Bell Ferrell Taylor. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 23 at 11:00 am, at Archer's Chapel Methodist Church, 356 Archer's Chapel Rd, Halls, TN. Burial will follow in Archer's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, July 22, 2019 from 5 - 8 pm at Archer's Chapel. Charlie was a caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He retired from A.O. Smith with thirty-eight years of faithful service. After retiring, Charlie enjoyed spending extra time around his family. He also displayed his green thumb by growing a multitude of vegetables in his yearly garden. Working with his hands brought him great joy. Charlie leaves behind his devoted wife of 56 years , Betty Riley Taylor of Frog Jump, TN, three daughters: Lana Gilliland (Scott)of Three Way, TN, Tina Thurmond (Jeff) of Frog Jump, TN and Kristy Laton (David) of Jackson, TN. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Emily Ross (Taylor), Wesley Thurmond (Kala), Brianna Brown, Kynley Laton, Avery Laton, Connor Laton and one great-grandson, Leo Ross. Master Sergeant Billy Dean Hunter, age 83, of Halls passed away Friday, June 28, 2019. He was married to Joy Sanders Hunter for 65 years. MSG Hunter was born May 15, 1936 in Gibson County and is the son of the late John Hoyt Hunter and Autry Fronnie Hunter. MSG Hunter served his country with honor in the Army from 1958 until he retired in 1978. William “Willie” Nelson, 67, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, June 27, 2019 at West Tennessee Healthcare - Dyersburg. Born November 28, 1951, he was the son of the late Reba Richards and Wallace Wilson. He was a supervisor in the field of construction most of his life. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the funeral home. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Jeannie Nelson; three daughters, Victoria Klutts of Newbern, Natasha Nelson of Jackson, Tabitha Nelson of Dyersburg; one son, William Joshua Nelson of Austin, TX; and two sisters, June Vandouser of Munford, Emma Cantu of Dyersburg; eight grandchildren, Ashley Klutts, Travis Klutts, Nikki Nelson, Breanna Vaughn, Demitrice McCrite, Anita Nelson, Audrey Nelson and Aurora Nelson; four great-grandchildren, Blake Roberts, Jaiceon Franklin, Jayden McCrite and Sebastian McMullen, and his surrogate brother, Rusty Jackson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Frances Nelson Shipley. Cremation services are under the direction of Curry Funeral Home. Brenda Gardner, 74, of Cloverdale, died Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. She was a member of the Zion Methodist Church, Cloverdale, TN. Brenda was a retired factory worker who always took great pride in being a farmers wife. Brenda enjoyed the fellowship of her church and being actively involved with the activities of the Cloverdale Community Center. Services for Mrs. Gardner will be held Wednesday, June 19, 2019, at Zion Methodist Church Cemetery at Cloverdale at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Brother Joe Thorn. Survivors include her daughter: Kim Dial and her husband, James of Cloverdale, TN; one granddaughter: Kelsy Dial of Cloverdale, TN; and two sisters: Kay Strawn of Dyersburg, TN, and Jan Kennedy of McLemoresville, TN. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 24 years: Royce Gardner; and, one brother: Mike Townsend.
