She was a member of the Independent Free Holiness Church of Dyersburg; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the church; and a member of the Disabled American Veterans auxiliary.

JoAnn James, age 82 of Dyersburg, Tennessee, died Monday, April 25, 2016 at her home in Dyersburg. Born on Wednesday, December 13, 1933 in Gibson, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Lafayette Warmath and the late Mattie Brooks Warmath. She was a retired first-grade elementary school teacher. JoAnn graduated valedictorian from Gibson High School, Class of 1951. She attended UT Martin, graduating in 1955 with a degree in Home Economics with minor in Education. She taught first grade for 30+ years in Dyersburg, receiving Outstanding Teacher of the Year award on two different occasions. She retired from teaching in 1997. Over her 35+ years of teaching, we estimate she influenced approximately 1,000 young lives. JoAnn attended First United Methodist Church (FUMC), Dyersburg, where she was an active member for 52 years. She started the FUMC kindergarten program in 1966. She served on numerous FUMC service committees over the years, Homebound Communion being one of her most rewarding. Visitation will be Friday, April 29, 2016 from 9:00-11:00 AM at Dyersburg First United Methodist Church, 100 McGaughey Street, Dyersburg, Tennessee. Marie Pate Hollingsworth, 89, of Finley, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at her residence.

Mrs. Hollingsworth was a retired school teacher that taught at various schools including, Sacramento, KY School, Ayers School, Richwoods School, Nauvoo School, Finley Elementary and Jennie Bell School. She was a 1945 graduate of Dyersburg High School. She also graduated from Union University in 1948 after completing her degree in three years. Mrs. Hollingsworth was a member of Ayers Methodist Church. She retired from teaching in 1975 to work full time with her husband and sons on the family farm, which was a very important part of her life until she passed away. She was a lifelong resident of the Ayers Community in Dyer County.

Gerald W. Ketchum, 66, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his residence. Born May 9, 1949 in Dyersburg, he is the son of Jean Moody Ketchum Jordan and the late Charles Wilburn Ketchum. He was an attorney, graduating from Memphis State University School of Law, commuting at night, while working full time as a Dyer County Deputy Sheriff. Gerald was a graduate of Dyersburg High School, where he served as the first local president of Sigma Phi Omega Fraternity and later as the National President. He attended Ole Miss and graduated from Arkansas State University, where he was a member and President of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. While attending Ole Miss, he was the managing editor of the Daily Mississippian; the first morning paper in the county to proclaim Nixon as the winner in the Presidential elections. He was a former writer for the Dyersburg Mirror and was instrumental in the formation of the “Teen Page”. Gerald was very active in the Dyersburg community, serving as a Boy Scout Master and financial supporter; Independence Day Fireworks organizer and operator for over 20 years; Christmas parade organizer for 15 years; and county chairman for the local Dyer County Republican Party. He was a member and former 2 term Governor of the Dyersburg Moose Lodge and also served as Administrator for 7 years.

She is the daughter of the late Winford and Maggie Dunn. She married the late Curtis Hendrix. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her four daughters: Lesa Hughes of Halls, TN, Pat Burnett of Kingston, TN, Tammy Mathis of Lenoir City, TN, Debbie Dyer of Merriville, TN and two sons: Harold Dunn of Farragut, TN, Leon Galyon of Semore, TN; Sister of one sister: Helen Dunn of Chattanooga, TN; She also has one grandchild. Grand daughter, Michelle Hughes. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Lenoir City, TN.

Mrs. Patricia Ann Steelman, age 83, of Halls passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 at home in Halls. Mrs. Patricia was born June 12, 1932 in Dyersburg, TN. She is the daughter of the late Harold and the late Thelma (Pugh) Thompson. She married Robert Charles Steelman Sr. Mrs. Patricia was a homemaker and avid community volunteer. She served for many years as a volunteer at the former Parkview Hospital in Dyersburg. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Robert Charles Steelman. Mrs. Patricia also is survived by two sons: Robert (Sandra) Steelman of Halls, TN, Morgan (Sissy) Steelman of Halls, TN. and a sister, Mrs. Carolyn Enochs of Cookeville, TN. Mrs. Patricia is survived by four grandchildren. Predeceased by two brothers, Donald Thompson and Mike Thompson. Doris Ochanon Kirkpatrick was taken from our world to a beautiful place called heaven on April 7th. . She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and devoted friend to many. She never met a stranger and always had a smile on her face. She was a very giving person and was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. She and her husband, MD Kirkpatrick JR owned and operated "a Country Corner grocery store and used car lot" on Hwy 78 where many happy memories were made.

She leaves behind daughter Brenda Minchew (Calvin), Grand-daughter Sharon Broussard (Ronnie), Great-Grand-son Joseph Broussard and 3 step-grandchildren Phillip, Wesley, and Sherman, Minchew. She also leaves behind 2 brothers, JL (Boochie) Berry, Marcus Berry, and one sister Connie Parker, and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Sammy Rogers, 64, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Memphis. Born March 17, 1952, he was the son of the late Billy Gene, Sr. and Doris Carpenter Rogers. He was President, co-owner and operator of Billy Rogers Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. Sammy gave a life of service active as both Deacon at Mount Vernon Baptist Church and a current member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He led a fulfilled life by glowing love for his sons and grandchildren and being a friend to everyone he knew. The loves of his life were his family, baseball, cooking and yardwork. He was a former member of the Tennessee National Guard.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 8, 2016 at Hillcrest Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Michael Crandall. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Born December 23, 1926 in Tiptonville, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Ulas Cochran and Essie Berry Cochran. She was a Tiptonville High School graduate and a 1948 graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. Mrs. Grubb was a former teacher, social worker and a member of the Church of Christ. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed all kinds of dancing, particularly square dancing, with her husband, Alex.
