He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Europe during World War Two. Afterward, he was a trackman for the Illinois Central Railroad, retiring in 1984 after 38 years of service.

He is survived by: his two sons, Tim & Malinda Reynolds of Eldon, MO, and Nick & Sue Moss of Caruthersville, MO; his daughter, Laura Jourden of Dyersburg, TN; two step-children, Neal Coke of Columbia, TN and Judy Marudas of Mt Juliet, TN. He had twelve grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He had one surviving sister, Judy & Jack McCormick of Nashville, TN
