He was an avid gardner and received numerous awards for his gardening abilities. He was known for his love of the history of the City of Tiptonville where he served several terms as an alderman.. The family will receive visitors at the Tiptonville Church of Christ on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until noon with graveside services and interment immediately following at Antioch Cemetery near Hornbeak. Survivors include his wife, Marie Runion; a daughter Debbie Sanford and husband Steve of Dyersburg; a son, John Runion of Tiptonville; a sister, Jane Harmon of Nashville, Tn.; three brothers, Donnie Runion of Nashville, Tn., Bobby Runion of Lawrenceburg, Tn., and Damon Runion of Memphis, Tn.; and two Grandchildren Neil Sanford of Memphis, Tn and Drew Sanford of Tuscaloosa, Al. Ralph Bruce, 82, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Larry Snell, in Eads, TN following a lengthy illness.
Born July 4, 1928, Mr. Bruce was reared in Dyer County and was the son of the late Sarah Victoria Thompson Bruce and the late Ollie William Bruce, both of Dyersburg. As a manager for Graber's Department Stores, he and his late wife, Mary Edna Shipley Bruce transferred to stores in Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee. Active in community and civic services wherever they lived, Mr. Bruce always preached for rural churches of Christ before returning to their beloved Dyer County in 1978. He then worked for Riggs Building Supply until 1995 and preached for the Pierce Lane Church of Christ until 2006. At his death, he was a member of Parr Avenue Church of Christ.
