James Alton Reasons, 91, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at St Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN. James was born October 26, 1917, raised and farmed for 50 years in the Richwoods Community of Western Dyer County. He married Lila Bess Burton in 1937 and they were married for nearly 72 years. James and Lila lived at Maple Ridge Assisted Living Center in Dyersburg for the past 18 months. In addition to his life long career as a farmer, he devoted many years of service to the agricultural advancement as a Soil Conservation Service Director, a County Committeeman for the USDA Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Forked Deer Rural Electric Cooperative. He was a long-time member of the Richwoods Methodist Church and then the Finley United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife of 72 years, Lila, James is survived by his two sons and their wives - Kent and Elaine Reasons, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Dick and Anne Reasons of Des Moines, Iowa, six grandchildren, and nine great grand children. James was preceded in death by his son, James Alton "Jimmy" Reasons, Jr. and is survived by daughter-in- law, Judy (Lee Reasons) Curry who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. Son Kent M. and Elaine Reasons, are the parents of grandsons, Scott K. (Cindy) Reasons, Greensboro, North Carolina, Bryan M (Carrie) Reasons, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, Todd A (Kerri) Reasons, Horseheads(Ithaca), New York, and Tyler L. (Renee) Reasons, Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania. Son Richard L(Dick) and Anne Reasons are the parents of granddaughter Laura Elizabeth Reasons (Daniel Schobel), Chicago, Illinois and grandson Stuart L (Jessica) Reasons, Nashville, Tennessee. Great grand children are: Devin and Meghan (Scott); Lucas and Shane (Bryan); Katie, Kevin, and Kolby (Todd) ; and Kyle and Kayla (Tyler). James is also survived by his 2 brothers Dolphus Reasons, Jr. and Gerald H. (Virginia) Reasons both of Dyersburg. James was preceded in death by his parents Dolphus and Edna Holt Reasons of Finley. Joe was born on Tuesday, June 20, 1939 in Dyersburg to James Stanley Gean and Alice Mary Lee Simmons Gean. He grew up in the Southtown area with his five brothers. The Gean family will receive friends for visitation at Curry Funeral Home Saturday, September 5, 2005 from five until eight p.m. Funeral services for Joe will be at four p.m. Sunday, September 6, 2009 in the chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend John Morris. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern. Serving as pallbearers for the Gean service will be Danny Gean, Ryan Gean, Scott Gean, Dalton Gean, Darrin Pegram, and Franklin Simmons. Grandson, Roper Gean will serve as an honorary pallbearer. He is survived by his daughter Angela Gean of Dyersburg; four brothers: Leon Gean of Dyersburg, Marvin Gean of Finley, Charlie Gean of Fowlkes, and Mark Gean of Dyersburg. Edna Faye McCorkle, 69, of Halls, died Monday, August 31, 2009 at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center where she was a resident. Edna was born one of nine children Monday, April 8, 1940 in Lenox, Tennessee to Gladys and Cletus "Snowball" Snow. She was a regular member of the congregation of the Lenox Church of God of Prophecy while living in Lenox. Not only did she love tending to her flower garden, her greatest joy was preparing a delicious home-cooked meal for her extended family. The McCorkle family will receive Edna's friends from five until eight o'clock, Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted by Brother Bill Phipps in the chapel of the funeral home at 1:00 pm Thursday, September 3, 2009 with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Born in Dyersburg, TN, Sarah was a true southern belle, who had many friends of all ages. A devoted Christian, she and her late husband, Richard D. Cross, worked for many years with the young people of their beloved First Presbyterian Church, where they were always a constant support. In his life, Joe had many pursuits and adventures, to include serving in the Navy in World War II and later in the Army; a professional wrestling career, working with the Dyersburg Police Department and the Dyersburg Fire Department. He helped to start the Dyer County Volunteer Conservation Club and once even walked from Dyersburg to Chattanooga to bring attention to the Tennessee Conservation League. No one could train a coon dog or raise a garden better than Joe. He was always looking for a neighbor or friend who could use his help.

On August 7, 2009, Brother Dan Leggett went to be with his Lord and Savior. He was an ordained minister with The Assemblies of God since 1979. He pastored churches in Tennessee, Mississippi, Kansas and Missouri. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, August 10th in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Reverend Randy Lainheart and Reverend Jerry Leggett officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive visitors from 5-8 pm Sunday, August 9th at Calvary Assembly of God in Kennett MO and beginning at 8 am Monday, August 10th at Curry Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Daniel Beaver, Floyd Wallace, Harold Mikel, Toney Hill, Jason Wilson and Greg Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Shelby Williams and Randy Williams. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Eva Davison Leggett, 1 daughter, Melonie Rae Leggett Williams and husband Randy of Memphis, TN; 1 Brother, Jerry Leggett and wife Brenda, of Union City, TN; 3 granddaughters, Shelby, Hannah Lynn (Bunny), and Gabbriella Hope Williams, all of Memphis. He was preceded in death by 1 brother, Jackie Joe Leggett and his parents, Thomas Woodrow and Mattie Lue Warren Leggett. Betty Lou Runion Roberts, 76, Dyersburg, TN died Friday, August 07, 2009 at Dyersburg Manor. She was born December 4, 1932 in Miston, Tennessee to the late Charlie H. and Eva Bottoms Runion. She was the third of six children. Funeral services for Mrs. Roberts will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Second Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Ronnie Turner and Reverend Johnny Welch. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Todd Geijer, Dean Armour, Kevin Joslin, Anthony Parham, Jim Gray and Pat Heinz. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 5-8pm at Curry Funeral Home. She had been a Christian since her early youth and was a member of the Second Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was very interested in genealogy and along with her sister and daughters located the countries of origin of many of their ancestors. She had also been a member of the PTA. She married James V. Roberts on November 28, 1948 and he preceded her in death. She is survived by 3 daughters: LaRinda (Bobby) Middleton, Tuscumbia, AL, Lynne (Guenter) Ruthsatz, Linden, TN, and Eva Lynne (Steve) Rogers, Dyersburg, TN. She is also survived by 1 sister; Jane (Paskel) Harmon from Pegram, TN, 4 brothers; Hurschel (Marie) Runion, Tiptonville, TN, Bobby (Roberta) Runion, Lawrenceburg, TN, Donnie (Julia) Runion, Goodlettsville and Damon (Gail) Runion, Memphis. TN. She is survived by 7 grandchildren: Jacob Rogers, Kelly Geijer, Amanda Murray, Justin Joswiak, Seth, Willie and John Hanks and 12 great-grandchildren: Madison, Karley and Logan Geijer, Alex Aycock, Regan and Cooper Murray, Autumn Joswiak, Ashley, Walynne, Lelynne, Elijah and Kiah Hanks. He is survived by two daughters: Kim Daniels and husband Ed, and Tonya Covington all of Dyersburg; one step-daughter, Regina Wade of Lexington; and, one step-son, John Via of Murfreesboro. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Bradley Hopgood, Brandon Hopgood, Nick Blalock, Emily Blalock, Brooke Blalock, Misty Wade, Christy Wade, Scott Ross, Felecia Daniels, and Samantha Daniels; and, 10 great-grandchildren: Chloe Hopgood, Bryleigh Blalock, Mason Dudas, Dahon Noles, Isaiah Ross, Rachel Ross, Tyler Ross, John Michael Garrett, Jacob Garrett, and Katie Beth Wade. He was proceeded in death by his parents: Bertha Davis Covington and Clarence Edward Covington; and, three sisters, Ruby Fortner, Maxine Burdin, and Lillian Moore.

Todd Arnold Randolph died Sunday, August 2, 2009. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and best friend to many. Todd's greatest joy was spending time with his children and family. He would most want to be remembered as the awesome father, husband, son, and brother he was. He was incredibly close to his family and friends. Flying, diving, hunting, woodworking, adventure sports, restoring motorcycles and vintage cars were just some of his many interests. Todd touched many lives in a positive way. He was always available to help others in their time of need, and he was a role model who led by example.

He is survived by two beautiful children; Caley and Luke, his wife, Susan Hutchinson Randolph; his mother and father, Linda Edlin Randolph and Kenneth Norris Randolph; his twin sisters, Robyn Randolph and Jessica "Kelly" Randolph and countless friends. He is deeply missed and will forever live in the hearts of those who love and cherish him.

Born at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Mrs. Rice moved to Dyer County in 1959 where, in addition to performing her homemaking duties, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Dyersburg, a volunteer at Parkview Hospital, and a Cub Scout den mother. Graveside services for Mrs. Rice were held Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009 at Fairview Cemetery with the Reverend Perry Grills officiating. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Caudill and her son, Ernest "Quad" Rice, IV and wife Tammy Tucker Rice all of Dyersburg. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Se was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Rice, III; her parents Ruby Scruggs Reynolds and Jimmy Reynolds; and a daughter, Karen Rice.
