Sam T. Viar, 80, of Dyersburg died Saturday, July 11, 2009 at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Viar will held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Gary Meade officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home. Mr. Viar was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, a World War II veteran, a former board member of the Dyersburg Housing Authority, and active in the Dyersburg Literacy Program. He served as sales manager for Borden Food Company for thirty-two years. He is survived by his wife Patricia "Pat" Steiger Viar; three daughters, Mary Jane Viar (Debbie) of Memphis, Vicki Viar (Dave) of Nashville, and Laura Viar Wallace (Doug) of Farmington, MO; one son, Sam Viar, Jr. (Tammy) of Dyersburg; two sisters, Marjorie Viar Craft of Laurel, MS, and Sally Viar Thompson of Mansfield, TX; three brothers, States W. Viar of Pomona, CA, Paul Viar of Shelby Township, MI, and John Viar of Humboldt, TN; and one grandchild, Drew Goodwin of Chapel Hill, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents Edna Campbell Viar and Walter Viar; and two brothers Walter Viar, Jr. and Bobby Joe Viar. Pierce H. (P.H.) White Jr., 77, Dyer County civic leader, cattleman and entrepreneur, passed away on June 11 at his home in Dyersburg. He spent his life in service to his family, his church, and his community, contributing generously of his abundant energy and creative ideas to many endeavors.

P.H. graduated from University of Tennessee College of Agriculture and was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He devoted much of his career to raising registered Hereford cattle and to advancing that breed by serving as director and president of the American Hereford Association.

Evelyn D. Yarbro, 65, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at her residence. She was a former employee of Dyersburg Fabrics and attended The Church of Jesus Christ on Hamer Road. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the City Cemetery in Dyersburg with Brother Jerry Stafford officiating. Survivors include her daughter Chastity Morton and husband Charles of Dyersburg, one sister, Gladys Wiginton and husband James of Dyersburg, and a brother L. P. Yarbro and wife Jois of Dyersburg. She was preceded in death by her parents James 'Jim' and Lillie Mae Yarbro, two sisters, Flora Mae Isbell and Martha Sue Norman, and a brother, William Yarbro. Pallbearers will be family members.
