Funeral services for Mr. Viar will held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Gary Meade officiating. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at Curry Funeral Home. Mr. Viar was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, a World War II veteran, a former board member of the Dyersburg Housing Authority, and active in the Dyersburg Literacy Program. He served as sales manager for Borden Food Company for thirty-two years. He is survived by his wife Patricia "Pat" Steiger Viar; three daughters, Mary Jane Viar (Debbie) of Memphis, Vicki Viar (Dave) of Nashville, and Laura Viar Wallace (Doug) of Farmington, MO; one son, Sam Viar, Jr. (Tammy) of Dyersburg; two sisters, Marjorie Viar Craft of Laurel, MS, and Sally Viar Thompson of Mansfield, TX; three brothers, States W. Viar of Pomona, CA, Paul Viar of Shelby Township, MI, and John Viar of Humboldt, TN; and one grandchild, Drew Goodwin of Chapel Hill, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents Edna Campbell Viar and Walter Viar; and two brothers Walter Viar, Jr. and Bobby Joe Viar. She is also survived by one brohter, William R. Turner of Clinton, Mississippi, six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. P.H. graduated from University of Tennessee College of Agriculture and was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He devoted much of his career to raising registered Hereford cattle and to advancing that breed by serving as director and president of the American Hereford Association.
