Photo of John William Stacy

John William Stacy

February 05, 1942 – December 07, 2023

John William Stacy, a dedicated minister of the church of Christ for over 60 years, passed away on December 7, 2023, in Dyersburg, Tennessee. Born on February 5, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, John devoted his life to spreading the teachings of his faith and serving countless communities throughout his remarkable career. John's journey into ministry began after his discharge from the United States Navy in 1965. He pursued higher education at Freed-Hardeman College, where he obtained an Associate of Arts degree in 1965. Determined to deepen his knowledge and understanding of theology, he continued his studies at Oklahoma Christian College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1966. Ever passionate about learning and exploring different facets of spirituality, John seized numerous opportunities to expand his expertise further. He received a Certificate of Outstanding Service from the President's Preachers Advisory Committee in 1977. Subsequently, he earned several advanced degrees from the International Bible Institute & Seminary: Master of Bible Theology (1979), Doctor of Ministry (1981), and Doctor of Letters (1981). John also pursued a Master of Arts degree from Alabama Christian School of Religion in 1981 and was honored with a Certificate of Merit from the Doctor of International Biography program. Throughout his journey as a minister, John served congregations not only across different states but around the world. He passionately preached as the pulpit minister in churches situated in Indiana, Florida, and Tennessee leaving an indelible impact on each community he touched. Additionally, he served as a missionary in Ghana, West Africa, New Delhi, India, and Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean during the '70s, '80s and '90s. John's immense love for sports was well-known amongst those close to him. In his spare time, he indulged his passion for baseball by coaching his son, John T, during his youth. Family held a special place in John's heart, and his walls were adorned with countless photographs documenting cherished moments spent together. With a booming voice perfectly suited to preaching, John never required a microphone to captivate his audience. His sermons resonated with authenticity and passion, illuminating the teachings of the Bible. In contrast to his serious calling, John had a playful side as well. He thoroughly enjoyed knock-knock jokes and engaged in silly antics that brought joy and laughter to those around him. His infectious laughter often led to tears of joy, and he genuinely believed he was the funniest person in the world. Professional wrestling also held a special fascination for John. He delighted in imitating legendary wrestling personalities such as Lance Russell, Dave Brown, Ric Flair, Jerry "The King" Lawler, Bill Dundee, and Handsome Jimmy Valiant characters who filled his leisure hours with excitement. John's hobbies and interests extended beyond sports and entertainment. He found solace in studying his Bible diligently and delving into various subjects surrounding genealogy and history, always nurturing his thirst for knowledge. Amongst John's proudest accomplishments were the over 60 preaching books he authored throughout his career. These literary works served as invaluable resources for seekers of spiritual guidance worldwide. His unwavering dedication to preaching the word of God touched countless lives and became a significant part of his enduring legacy. John was preceded in death by his loving parents, John Troy Stacy and Eleanor Catherine Smith Stacy. He is survived by his son, John T Stacy; daughter-in-law Kimberly Stacy; granddaughters Keeli Stacy, Kelsey Stacy Burger and Kensley Stacy and grandson Jacob Stacy; great- grandson Landen Stacy and great-granddaughters Charlie Stacy, Madison Burger, and Emma Burger. John William Stacy's departure from this world leaves an immense void in the lives of all who knew him. His profound impact as a minister, his devotion to family, and his unwavering commitment to spreading the teachings of Christ will forever be remembered. A celebration of John's life "potluck" and legacy will take place on February 3, 2024, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, at the Dyersburg Community Church where he served for the past 16 years. Come and go or come and stay, but let's share some food and fond memories as we celebrate John. In lieu of flowers, the Stacy family kindly requests donations in John's memory to be made to the church's Outreach Program, which ensures support for those in need in the local community. John William Stacy's remarkable journey as a minister, missionary, and loving father has left an indelible mark on all who knew him. As we mourn his loss, we take solace in knowing that his spirit lives on through his teachings, his writings, and the enduring love he shared with those closest to him. His memory will forever inspire us to embrace our faith, cherish our families, and find laughter in life's simplest joys.

Cremation funeral services are under the direction of Curry Funeral Home. We are privileged and honored to serve the Stacy family. You may share your condolences and your memories with the family at www.curryfuneral.com.
