Thomas "Tommy" Lee Pittman, age 66, of Rossville passed away Saturday, June 17, 2023. Tommy was born April 13, 1957, in Clarksdale, MS. He is the son of the late Edward and the late Syble Gable Pittman. He was retired from the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife: Clairissia (McAlister) Pittman, two daughters: Dana (David) Thurmond Seaton of Somerville, TN, and Melinda (Skip) Thurmond Schreffler of Bartlett, TN, and one son: Patrick Lee Pittman of Oxford, MS; Brother of one brother: Bruce Pittman of Oakland, MS. Tommy also leaves two grandchildren Mallory Dawson and Wyatt Dorsey, both of Somerville, TN. Tommy was preceded in death by his brother Sonny Pittman. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, June 23 at Halls Funeral Home, 109 N. Church St., Halls, TN with Bro. Mark Duggan officiating. The burial will be in Halls Cemetery. Frances Cammiel George Woodbury died on June 17, 2023 in Ridgeland, Mississippi, after a wonderfully lived life. Her parents Wilma Keyes (nee Boswell) and Jennings Burton George welcomed her on July 15, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois. Her father was working on his doctorate at the University of Chicago at that time, but being a staunch Southerner and an Ole Miss Rebel, she rarely shared her birthplace.

After living in Nashville, TN, where her father completed his doctorate at Peabody College, the family moved to Hattiesburg, MS, after which Dr. George became the third president of State Teachers College (now the University of Southern Mississippi) in 1933. Cammiel George attended the Demonstration School at the college through the 10th grade. Because the school was based on the University of Chicagos educational philosophy, she received a progressive education which advocated creativity and exploration and instilled in her a love of poetry, science, history, and design.

Mr. Billy Harold Clark, of Dyersburg, passed away Friday, June 16, 2023 at his residence. Billy was born September 22, 1944 to J.T. & Mary Ruth Clark and was a life-long resident of Dyer County. He was known as a "Jack of All Trades" and for his outgoing personality, never meeting a stranger as well as his love for cars. He most recently worked for the Tucker Tire Co. and also served as a commissioner for the local water board. He was active throughout his life in First United Pentecostal Church and the Church of God of Prophecy.

He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Clark, his grandsons, Addison Clark, that he raised, and Evan Bell, Ethan Gibbons and Garrett Malugen, two great-grandchildren, Malea Gibbons & Branham Clark Malugen and a special cousin, Betty Mackey. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Melissa Clark and brother, Tommy Clark.

Dawson Eugene Johnson, age 87 of Dyersburg, TN passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at West TN Healthcare - Dyersburg Hospital.

He was born on April 22, 1936 in Dyersburg, TN to the late Lindell & Mildred Pike Johnson. Dawson was the owner of the original Johnson Motor Company on St. John Ave for many years. He enjoyed fixing up and tinkering with old cars and been known to build multiple race cars and dune buggies. He was a member of the Forked Deer Car Club and Big D CB Club for over 50 years. Dawson enjoyed riding for wheelers and was known as a master fabricator who could fix or put anything together. He will be remembered for loving life and living it to the fullest. Dawson proudly served his country in the United States Army.

She was employed by Lauderdale County School System as a Cafeteria Worker. Genell is survived by her husband: Larry Zane Ezekiel, one daughter: Dana Ezekiel of Dyersburg ,TN and one son: David (Michelle) Ezekiel, of Halls, TN; Sister of one sister: Peggy Faye Baker of Halls, TN. She also leaves behind four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her son, Mark Ezekiel. Ms. Jan Taylor-Kelt passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at Oakwood Community Living center in Dyersburg. She was born February 19, 1925 in Downers Grove, IL, to Willard & Jennie Baxter and was a graduate of the University of Illinois. She was a long-time resident of Dyersburg and later in life enjoyed living in Florida part-time. For many years, she worked in newspaper journalism, first as the Dyersburg Bureau Chief for the Memphis Commercial Appeal, then as the City Editor for the Dyersburg State Gazette. She was a dedicated community servant, as a board member for McIver's Grant Public Library, a member of the Dyersburg Garden Club, as a volunteer leader for the Girl Scouts for 25 years and a long-time member of First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Taylor Pipkin & husband, Mike, her sisters Beth Hinton & Marjorie Doty, her grandchildren, Clifton McLain, Bonnie McLain, Kyle Taylor and great-grandson Mitchell Allen. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Arthur Taylor and Bob Kelt, her son Baxter Taylor, her daughter, Gayle Taylor McLain and sister, Sally Perron.

Mrs. Beverly Gatlin Fowlkes, of Dyersburg, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023 at West Tennessee Healthcare-Dyersburg Hospital. She was born November 9, 1950 to Earl & Ruby Gatlin and was a life-long resident of Dyersburg. She was a devoted caretaker, helping others in her community in any way that she could, from providing meals to serving on the board of the Dyer County Community Cancer Fund. She and her husband owned and operated Pierce's Bargain Center as a fixture of the Southtown Community for many years. She and her family are long-time members of Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Danny Fowlkes, her son, Dan Fowlkes & wife, Tyla, her grandsons, Zach Mullins & Will Fowlkes. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Ricky & Earl "Duke" Gatlin.

Mr. Willie Edward "Eddie" Brown, of Finley, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023 at his home. Eddie was born March 20, 1944 in Dyer County to the late Willie and Tommy Lee Brown. Eddie was a people person and spent his life in sales for various companies. He had a passion for his family and friends, spending time hunting, fishing, cooking and sharing meals with them. He was involved in stock car racing for many years as well as being a life-long fan of baseball. He was dedicated to youth baseball in Dyer County as an umpire, coach and fan most of his lifetime.

He is survived by his sons, Darren Brown, Josh Brown, Cliff Pruitt, his daughters Cathy Pitts & Angela Matlock, his brothers, Franklin, Joe & David Brown. He was greatly loved and known as "Pop" by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, Janet Lineberry Brown, his parents and his brothers, Harry & James Brown.

James (Jimmy) Merle Larson, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and faithful servant of God, peacefully entered eternity at Jackson Madison County Hospital on June 8, 2023, at the age of 73. Born on April 4, 1950, he was the son of Merle and Virginia Larson, of Halls, TN, who, along with his brother Chris, preceded him in death. Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of over 48 years, Patricia, their two sons, Bryan (Rebecca) and Lyle (Susan), five adoring grandchildren, Elijah, Luke, Elizabeth, Madilyn, and Ava, and two sisters, Johanna (Teddy) Stutts and Millie Nester.

Jimmy will be remembered as a man whose faith was the cornerstone of his life. He exemplified the teachings of Christ through his selflessness and unwavering focus on others. Jimmy had a heart that overflowed with love and compassion, always placing the needs of those around him above his own. His kind and gentle spirit touched the lives of countless individuals, and he was a beacon of hope and encouragement to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born September 22, 1968, he is the son of the late Douglas Kelly Jones and Martha Giles Graham. Marty grew up near Reelfoot Lake and graduated from Lake County High School in Tiptonville, TN. Marty went on to graduate from Austin Peay University in Clarksville, TN with Bachelors Degree. Marty became a Senior Programming Analyst working many years at BMI before ultimately becoming a contract programmer working at many firms over the years, specializing in advanced database programming, control and management. Graveside memorial services will be held at Hickman City Cemetery in Hickman, KY at a later date. He is survived by his two sisters, Tammy Lynn Coons (Phil) of Germantown, NY and Tracey Cheryl Harrell (Auzie) of Martin, TN and nephews, Matthew Jones of Ballston Lake, NY, Brandon Harrell of Martin, TN, Christopher Harrell of Nauvoo, TN, Samuel Harrell of Martin, TN and nieces Nicole Sharping of Martin, TN, Hannah Harrell of Martin, TN. After the birth of her first daughter, Sybil decided to be a stay-at-home mom and homemaker, which she loved and continued up until her passing. She was an avid reader and enjoyed her flowers and birds. Sybil was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for over 60 years where she served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all.

She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. In her early years, she worked in the Woolworth's store, then retired from Kroger after 37 years of service. With her outgoing personality and love for people, she went back to work as a greeter for First Citizens National Bank for several more years. She truly loved her friends and family and enjoyed spending time taking care of her yard and flower garden. She was a life-long member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where she taught the Phebean Sunday School Class.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Lori Long & husband, Tommy, her grandchildren, Logan Long, LaraBeth Gibbs and Jenny Talbott, her great-grandchildren, Layton Harris, Kobe Melton, Bentley Dawson, Preston Holland, Ellie Gibbs, Hattie Gibbs, Tristen Long, Eli Long, Braxton Long, Adelyn Talbot, Avery Talbot & Spencer Talbot, Thomas Long and Brennan Long. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 67 years, Jerry Willis. She also loved her two special nieces, like sisters, Nancy Floyd and the late Barbara Eller.

After retirement, Gary went on to work for NWTHRA as a driver. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling. Gary was an avid country line dancer and would travel to Halls, Humboldt or anywhere in between to find a dance. He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. If asked how he wanted to be remembered by, Gary would say "I have lived a blessed life".

Shirley Vargas age 83 of Purcell, OK, passed away on May 31, 2023 in Norman, OK.

Shirley Ann Rushing was born in Dyersburg, Tennessee to William Homer Rushing and Ida Leoder Rushing (Bates) on September 2, 1939. She grew up in the Dyersburg area and attended school there. Life led her to Gary, Indiana where she met Leonardo Vargas in 1964. The young couple were married on January 20, 1965 in Crownpoint, Indiana. Shirley and Leonardo made their home in Portage, Indiana for nearly 50 years, until they moved to Oklahoma to be closer to family in their retirement. Shirley was a proud homemaker, and always kept an immaculate house. She was a woman of great faith and long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ in New Chicago, Indiana. She taught Sunday School and was a song leader there for many years. Shirley also had a heart for children, she enjoyed helping them at church, and looking after kids in her own family as well. Shirley was a beloved wife, sister, and aunt who will be dearly missed.

Paul David Jones, Sr., 77, of Tiptonville, TN, passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at his residence.

He was born on November 25, 1945, in Tiptonville, TN, to the late Claude Anderson Jones and Margaret Glass Jones. Paul retired from the United States Postal Service after 25 years of service. He then went on to be the Sheriff for the Lake County Sheriff's Department. Paul was a member of Tiptonville First Baptist Church and was a Master Mason with the Harmony Lodge in Tiptonville. He enjoyed beekeeping, hunting, fishing and gardening. Paul proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Thomas R. Moss, Jr., 91, of Memphis, formerly of Dyersburg, died Sunday, May 14, 2023 at his Memphis home surrounded by his loving family. He was retired after 30 years in marketing and sales with W.R. Grace & Company. It was at W.R. Grace where he met his beautiful future wife. Tom and Ginny were married in 1962 and raised 3 children as he continued his career and then with Terra Nitrogen in Tulsa, OK. Tom was the epitome of a true southern gentleman. He was charming and welcoming and had such a sweet spirit. He enjoyed many things. his dogs, fishing, jazz music, Tennessee Volunteers, but most of all the love his family. He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, friend, dog-whisperer Pippa and faithful follower of Christ. He had a passion for working with Jr High and High Schoolers and had the privilege of teaching Sunday School at Second Presbyterian and First Evan and was deeply loved by his classes. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Mr. Moss proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean war and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1959. Born March 14, 1932 in Dyersburg, he is the son of the late Thomas R., Sr. and Elise Doyle Moss. A private graveside burial was held for Mr. Moss on May 18, 2023, at the Dyersburg City Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held in Memphis, Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years, Virginia Moss; two daughters, Amy May (John), Jenna Moss, both of Memphis; one son, Tommy Moss of Memphis; and four grandchildren, Olivia, Julianna, Ryan & Jack. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Carroll Wheeler. They then moved to Lake County where she worked at H.I.S. until retiring. She was a faithful member of Cottonwood Baptist Church and enjoyed any time that she would get together at church with family and friends. She enjoyed to cook, sew, and do crafts in her spare time. In 1975, Lorene married Mr. LB Maddox, who made her life complete. Her children had a stepfather like no other. Together they always had a large garden. Life was good in her marriage to LB, until his death in 2010.

She leaves behind her granddaughter, Logan Mariah Buckner and three grandsons, Chase Alexander, Gage Addison, and Blake Ashton Corlew. Gynger also leaves two sisters, Ellen Durham of Hernando, MS and Betty Young of Friendship, TN. Plus many loved nieces and nephews. Gynger was employed at Harden Office Equipment in Dyersburg, TN until the time of her disability. Through all of her hardships in life, she always braved them while keeping a smile on her face. She was a devoted Christian and always relied on God to take care of her needs. She was a devoted member of Southfork Baptist Church at Chesnut Bluff for many years. Even on her worst days, her great grandson Rafe could make her smile. In her last days she quoted this scripture daily; "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" Philippians 1:21. She has gained her new body and is worshipping at the feet of Jesus.

William is survived by his wife: Terry (Pate) Sealand and three daughters: Candece Biggs of Ripley, TN, Shirley Taylor of Ripley, TN and Christie Hulgan of Dyersburg, TN,; Brother of one brother: Chester Warren Sealand of Memphis, TN; He also leaves six grandchildren; Dylon Sealand of Ripley, TN, Lauren Chandler of Dyersburg, TN, Julianna Hulgan of Jackson, TN, Hannah Fitts of Ripley, TN, Devon Taylor of Ripley, TN and Beau Biggs of Ripley, TN. He was preceded in death by two sons, John Sealand and Shaun Sealand, and one brother, Robert Sealand. The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, May 6 at Halls Funeral Home, 109 N. Church St., Halls, TN with Bro. Larry Kelly officiating, burial will follow in Trinity Cemetery, Nutbush, TN. Calling hours will be Friday, May 5 from 4 pm until 7 pm at Halls Funeral Home, 109 N.
