Roger was a retired Illinois Central Railroad employee and a retired farmer. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Smith) Tillman, one daughter Teresa (Scotty) White of Henning, TN and one son Greg (Tiffany) Tillman of Ripley, TN. He also leaves three sisters June (Barry) Bates of Ripley, Janie (Bill) Sweat of Halls and Linda Tillman (Tommy) Climer of Franklin,Tn and one brother Danny Ray (Pam) Tillman of Ripley. Roger also leaves six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with one on the way. The funeral will be held 2pm Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Faith Community Church 8259 Hwy 87 W. Mr. Alvis passed away when Alma was 2 and her mother married Alex Leake who raised her as his own. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ridgely and was a homemaker. When she was able, Alma enjoyed going to the Senior Citizens Center in Ridgely and was a huge dog lover.

John Ezra Gauldin III entered fully into the presence of his Lord on Saturday, April 29, 2023 surrounded by his wife and children. He will be remembered as a follower of Christ, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, Tennessean, fighter pilot, outdoorsman, mentor, practical joker, golfer, businessman, and lifelong member of First Baptist Church Dyersburg.

He was born January 5, 1933 in his grandparents' house on his family farm in Newbern, Tennessee. He grew up on his family land with his doting parents, surrounded by his beloved extended family, and his earliest years of life fostered a deep love and affection for his native Dyer County. He attended Dyersburg High School, where he played football all four years and served as Vice President of the Class of 1950. John was proud to be the founding member and President of the Dyersburg High School Key Club. He attended the University of Tennessee for one year, where he pledged and joined Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. His lifelong dream was realized in 1951 when he received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a degree in engineering and military science in 1955.

Mr. Bonnie Wilson Burse, age 83, of Dyersburg, TN, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023 at his residence.

He was born on May 25, 1939, in Dyersburg, TN, to the late Raymond Lincoln Burse and Martha May Dudley Burse. Bonnie worked for Good-Year in the instrument lab for over 28 years. His family referred to him as a dare devil and adrenalin junkie because he would do things some people would never think about. He especially enjoyed hang gliding, skydiving and cave exploring. Bonnie never worried about the dangers of the things he did, he just wanted to have fun and live life to the fullest. He could also build and fix just about anything from model planes to boats. Bonnie loved to be outdoors hunting and fishing and enjoyed riding his motorcycle. He also loved giving back to the younger generations through volunteering as a boy scout leader for many years. Bonnie proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

Doris Scott Stafford, 85, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her residence. Born May 9, 1937 in Dyersburg, she is the daughter of the late Dennis Edward and Ada Mae Devasier Scott. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and special friend to all who knew her.

She graduated from Dyer County High School and went on to graduate from The University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. A few years later, she received her Masters Degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Upon graduation, she began her teaching career with the Dyersburg City School System. She taught sixth grade math for thirty-one and a half years to hundreds of students. After she retired from teaching full time, she continued to work part time tutoring. She touched many lives along the way. Teaching was her passion and her students were always close to her heart. Everywhere Ms. Stafford went in Dyersburg, she was greeted by former students of all ages who would hug her and express their appreciation of her.

Mr. Bobby Joe "Bob" Brock, of Finley, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at The Bay at Dyersburg. He was born July 1, 1938 in Haleyville, AL, to the late J.O. & JessieMae Brock. Bob was a lifelong-farmer and was well-known across Dyer County. He was a member of Finley Methodist Church and loved watching wrestling, enjoyed hunting with friends and travelled across the state and country as an avid bowler.

Bob is survived by his wife, Faye Bradley Brock, his son, Clark Brock & wife, Amy, his daughter, Donna Goff & husband, Randy, his grandchildren, Jennifer Hedgepath, Gracie Brock and Joel Goff & wife, Hannah and his great-grandson, Kye Goff. He was one of eleven children and is survived by sisters, Betty Terry, Sue Dykes, Liz Sullivan and Dora Freeman. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Tom, Bill & John Edward "Bud" Brock and his sisters, Louise Roberson, Maxine McPeak, Carnell Ashby & Minnie Brock.

Evelyn Webb Chandler, 90, of Halls, passed away Monday, April 24th, 2023 in Murfreesboro with her son Ken Webb of Dyersburg and daughter Carolyn Callender of Murfreesboro by her side. Evelyn was born the oldest of four children to Oscar and Neva Brewer on September 5th, 1932. In her younger years she learned a strong work ethic helping her parents in the cotton fields. She married the love of her life Kenneth Webb in 1949. Ken and Evelyn loved their church and singing praises to their savior. They raised 3 children and had 8 grandchildren before Ken's passing in 1995. Evelyn married her second husband, Max Chandler, in 1998, and they continued to lead a life full of sharing the good news of Jesus, working hard at the barber shop, and pouring into their community. She barbered in Halls at Ken's Barber Shop for about 40 years and was a faithful member of Tucker Street Church in Dyersburg, TN. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29th at Halls Funeral Home officiated by Nate Callender. Ken Webb, Mark Callender, Isaac Webb, Nate Callender, Noel Foster, and Ben Foster will be serving as pallbearers. Jamie Barnes and John Lazure are honorary pallbearers. During his lifetime, Sam took advantage of opportunities granted to him by his childhood community and encouraging mentors. He started his work life picking cotton, and ended it as a successful business owner. Sam was a pillar of his community and most importantly, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Born at home in Munford, TN on December 9, 1929 to parents Mattie Anderson Woodbury and James Harry Woodbury, Sr., his older siblings included Sara Mildred Woodbury Symes (Tom) and James Harry Woodbury, Jr. (Ruth). Sam was proud of the fact that the Woodbury family called West Tennessee their home since the 1820s.

Peggy also leaves seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild along with seven step children. Peggy was preceded in death by two husbands, Hulon Hogue and Thomas Lyle Gillenwater and a son Marlon Hogue and a granddaughter Amy Terry. She was also preceded in death by ten siblings Nancy Nix, Geneva Lovelace, Mildred Childress, Erma Olds, Rachel Hong, H.T. Erwin, Aron Neal Erwin, Linburg Erwin, Joe Erwin, Gail Erwin. Stacy enjoyed working, building and driving race cars in which he shared that passion with his two boys, nephew, his brother and friends. You can bet they were always at the track. In Stacy's final days, he told Seth, Stacy, Jr., Joelynn and Tony to never give up on racing and to always keep going no matter what. In which they will and they will always keep Stacy's memory alive.

Boochie was a lifelong resident of the Tiptonville community. He was a commercial fisherman for 62 years, owner of Berrys Gas Station and Berrys Bait Shop. He was well known to his community - to know him was to love him. He made a lasting impression on all who knew him. Boochie had a tough exterior but a heart of gold. He was a mentor to many men and boys throughout his life. His bait shop was always and still today is the “hangout” for his numerous family and friends.

He was a loving father and grandfather to his kids and grandchildren who he dearly loved. Troy was a faithful member of Wynnburg Baptist Church. He also enjoyed supporting and cheering on any sporting event going on in Lake County. Troy proudly served his country in the United States Army.
