Charlotte “Kay” King, 88, of Marietta, GA, formerly of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Tranquility Hospice. Born July 27, 1934 in Lenox, TN, she is the daughter of the late Gaston and Elva Killett Richardson. She loved children and worked in daycare until she retired at age 83. She enjoyed receiving calls, cards and photos for many years from the children and their family. She was an active member of Olive Springs Baptist Church and enjoyed helping in the Sonshine Class. She loved to work in the yard and being outdoors. She was blessed with many friends that eased her thru this past year.

Graveside funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Fairview Cemetery officiated by Reverend Mike Hickman.

She was born on May 5, 1943 in Halls, TN to the late John and Beulah Mae Grizzle Smith. Glenda owned and operated Forsythe Beauty Salon in Dyersburg for many years. Glenda was a member of Independent Free Holiness Church in Dyersburg where she was very active and played the piano for over 50 years. She was very talented in all aspects of life whether that being playing an instrument, sewing, cooking, or cutting hair. Glenda also enjoyed gardening with her younger brother Lloyd and his wife Linda. She was known as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to all her family.

Billy Judd Reed, Sr., 74, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at West Tennessee Healthcare Dyersburg. Born January 30, 1948 in Dyersburg, he is the son of the late Moody and Doris Foster Reed. Billy was retired from Caterpillar.

Billy grew up mostly in Dyersburg, but also spent time in Memphis, Shiloh, North Dakota, and Illinois as the family traveled with his fathers work. He graduated from Dyersburg High School in 1966, and attended both Jackson State Community College and the University of Tennessee at Martin. He was drafted in 1969 and graduated from U.S. Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina in April 1969. He then went on to training in Camp Lejeune, NC before deploying to Vietnam in May 1969. Upon his arrival he served as a Chinook door gunner before training as a medic with the 7th Marines. Billy would spend 13 months in Vietnam, operating mostly in and around the Que Son Mountain Region. During that time, he would earn multiple awardsbut was most proud of his Combat Action Ribbon and the brave men he was able to help along the way. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in July 1970. Upon returning to the U.S., Billy married Jennifer Newsom in October 1970, and they would have two children, Judd and Clint. He worked at Billy Newsom Produce Company for the next 20 years, then with Gordon Food Service for another 15 years, and retiring from Caterpillar after 14 years. Growing up, Billy loved playing baseball and did so until he left for Vietnam. His biggest hobby was cutting grass and helping his son Judd with the multitude of projects around their properties.

She was loved as Grandmaw and Granny by her three grandchildren, Catherine Anderson, Brandon Tubbs and Heather Tubbs, her great-grandchildren, Cayla and Maggie Anderson, Maygen and Baylee Tubbs and Madison Reeves and great-great-grandchild, Caiya Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Tubbs, her parents and her brother Carlton Johnson and sisters, Maybelle Simmons and Peggy Hicks.

Mr. William David Greer, of Dyersburg, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Maple Ridge Assisted Living. David was born in Unionville, TN on June 14, 1929. He worked for Forcum-Lannom Contractors for 47 years, managing and transporting their equipment fleet. He was a long-time member and Deacon-Emeritus at Hillcrest Baptist Church. In his free time, he enjoyed being a part of the Forked Deer Antique Car Club, camping with family and friends and later spent his mornings visiting the staff at Delta Chevrolet for coffee or fresh popcorn.

He is survived by his sons, Larry "Bubba" Greer, Billy Greer and wife, Vicki, David Greer, Jr. and wife, Dana, his daughters, Becky Bryan Walker and husband, Rodney and Linda Davis. He was greatly loved as "Papaw" by his eleven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Joan Welborn Greer, his mother, Rebecca Greer and daughter-in-law, Mary Alice Greer.

It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Jones announce she left her earthly home on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. She was 86 years old.

Born September 15, 1936, she is the daughter of the late Gus and Lucile Criswell Crawford. She grew up in Lenox, Tennessee in a small farming community in Dyer County. After graduating from Dyersburg High School, Barbara met and married Maurice Jones and went on to study and obtain her Bachelors of Science in Education from Bethel University, and Masters degree from Memphis State University. She dedicated her working career to teaching fifth grade students of Dyer County and Dyersburg School Systems. Mrs. Jones could not go anywhere outside of school without being pulled aside and hugged by her many past students- she was affectionately a favorite and helped nurture a love for reading in children. As a testament to her excellence in teaching, she was named teacher of the year multiple times in several schools she taught, and runner-up for teacher of the year for the entire state of Tennessee in 1975.

Later in life, she was a member of First Pentecostal Church in Ridgely and worked as a CNA at Reelfoot Manor and enjoyed fishing and Gospel Music, as a member of the duo "Stepp by Stepp".

She is survived by her sons, Steve Johnson and Derek Matthew Johnson and was loved as "MawMaw" by her four grandsons, Samual, Patrick & Drew Johnson and Zachary Goff. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Coyce Johnson and Wayne Stepp, her son, Brian Dale Johnson, her parents and her nine brothers & sisters.

She was a homemaker for all her life but was very involved in her church and community events for many years. Polly was a member of Phillips St, Church of Christ where she taught a children's Bible class for 40 years. She was also PTA President at Alice Thurmond School, a Girl Scout leader and member of Halls Veteran Museum. Polly also administered the pilots written test through the FAA for 10 plus years and helped get educational programs for the American Cancer Society up and going. But overall her "Life Work" was caring and taking care of others in and outside of her home.

Surviving Mr. Adams are his wife of 40 years, Betty Broglin Adams and his four children, Timothy (Stacy) Adams, Randal (Monica) Adams, both of Bartlett, Tammy (Tommy) Ray, Deonna (Luis) Enochs, both of Bruceville, Lisa Daniels of Atoka, and a brother Danny (Karen) Adams, of Halls. He leaves 12 grandchildren (Justin, Cody, Crystal, Lauren, Stephen, Cameron, Jacob, Selena, Alyssa, Lane, Felton, and Sidney) and eight great-grandchildren (Kora, Eli, Bella, Sebastian, Ellie, Erin, Owen, and Callie) to further his memory. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his mother Ophelia and brothers Ed Adams, Billy Adams and sister Caroline Riddick. Also preceding him was a son, Kevin Adams, a niece Paige Beasley, a nephew, Robert Riddick and a great granddaughter, Abby Enochs. He served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War and after his honorable discharge from the military, he made his profession as a Master Tool and Die maker for Anderson-Hickey of Halls. He was a graduate of Dyersburg High School and The University of Tennessee at Martin, where he was still very involved in the alumni association and athletics program. David spent his life working and coaching kids in basketball and baseball. He served as a basketball coach and teacher at Bogota, Finley, Dyer County High School, Dyersburg City Schools and also umpired countless baseball games over the years. Despite David's aliments, that never stopped or slowed him down any in his life. Later in life David served as a Dyer County Commissioner for District A. David was a member of Millers Chapel Church of Christ until it closed and then Phillips Street Church of Christ. He was also a huge UT and UTM supporter for many years.

After leaving the service he worked as an agent for Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company, as a teacher and coach at Holice Powell Elementary and as a GED instructor for Dyersburg State Community College. He was a member of Lake Road Church of Christ.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, Warren Nunn, her sons: Nick Nunn (Kara), Chris Nunn (Kim), both of Memphis; six grandchildren - Megan, Kristin, David Revelle II (DR), Emily, William, and Ben; her sister Marcella Houseal (Johnny), niece Detra Brock (Mitch), and nephew John Houseal (Laura). Eleanor was born August 13, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee. She attended Immaculate Conception High School as part of the class of 1958 and became a lifelong Memphis State Tigers fan (University of Memphis) when she entered as a college Freshman. Eleanor received her B.S. from Memphis State University in 1962 and consummated her educational journey with a Masters of Education degree in January of 1969. She shared her many teaching gifts with students at Denver Elementary in Frayser, Tennessee and with the youth of Atlanta, Georgia. After Eleanor moved to Halls with Warren, she worked as a substitute teacher within the Halls Schools system and was an active volunteer and member of the Halls PTO. Eleanor cherished the Catholic faith that she was raised with and was a member of the Ave Maria Catholic Church in Ripley, Tennessee. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and community volunteer. She treasured her time outdoors; gardening, listening to the birds, feeding wildlife, antiquing, and working at her friend Charlene's shop. She and Warren loved to travel with friends. Eleanor loved giving back to her community and to people both young and old. She enjoyed helping those in need and giving of herself both physically and financially whenever she felt the genuine need of others. Eleanor's earthly presence will certainly be missed but she will be remembered in the legacy that she leaves behind - the legacy of a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, volunteer, and friend. A private funeral service will be scheduled for a later date but in the meantime the family will receive friends at the Halls Funeral Home on Monday, October 10 from 5-7 in the evening. Mrs. Clara "Barham" Conley, age 80, of Ripley died Friday, September 30, 2022 in Dyersburg, TN. Mrs. Conley was born March 1,1942 in Henning, TN. She is the daughter of the late Willis Hardeman and the late Tennie (Winberry) Barham. She retired from a career in banking. Mrs. Conley leaves her son Chad (Poonam)Conley and her grandson Evan Conley of Fuqua-Varina North Carolina and a Special niece Leighann (Paul) Ward of Halls, TN and several other nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. Mrs. Conley was preceded in death by her husband Albert Eugene Conley, four sisters: Nell Caldwell, Billie Griggs, Ruby Barham, and Jo Anne Haynes. Four brothers: J.D. Barham, Lloyd Barham, Harry Lee Barham, and Willis Earl Barham. The funeral will be held 12:30 pm on Monday, October 3 at Halls Funeral Home, 109 North Church St, Halls, TN with Dr. Chris Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Ripley Memorial Gardens. Calling hours will be Monday, October 3 from 11:00 am. until service time at Halls Funeral Home, 109 N. Church St., Halls, TN.
