Opal Dean Davis

Opal Dean Davis, 83, passed away suddenly Tuesday, December 3, after a short stay in the hospital. The last surviving child of Beatrice Ellis and George Wesley Leggett, Sr., she was finally called home to rest with her husband, the late Samuel Chandler "Bugg" Davis, and her seven siblings, Evelyna Clark, Leona Broadstreet, Wesley Leggett, Jr., Billy Leggett, Dorothy Holcomb, Alvis Leggett, and Roy Leggett. To say Ms. Dean was a busy little lady is an understatement! She was a member of New Vision Baptist Church in Halls, TN, the Curve Woodville FCE club, a volunteer at Lauderdale Community Hospital gift shop, visited the Helen Tucker Center and the Jim Causey Memorial Group Home twice a month for crafts and to share homemade baked goods with the residents, and was the long-time Treasurer of the Woodville Cemetery Association. She is survived by two sons, Samuel E. Davis (Lois), Russell L. Davis; one daughter, Emily Davis Griggs (Richard); four grandsons, William Davis (Whitney), Logan Davis (Ryan), Chandler Griggs, and Aiden Griggs; three granddaughters, Alyssa Davis, Madison Davis Crihfield (Corey), and Lindsey Griggs Racine (Stephen); and eight great-grandchildren, Willow Davis, Ronan Davis, Lyra Davis, Emrys Davis, Freyja Davis, Atticus Racine, Eva Racine, and Rhydian Crihfield. Services will be held on Friday, December 6, at 1:00p.m. at the New Vision Baptist Church in Halls, TN. The family will receive friends from 10:00a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Woodville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to New Vision Baptist Church in Halls. Betty Yarbro Rickert, 95, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Oakwood Community Living Center. Born January 8, 1924, she is the daughter of the late Thomas Elisha and Ethel Pierce Yarbro. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sellers Sunday School Class and a retired insurance clerk at Dyersburg Fabrics. In 1942, she worked at the Dyersburg Army Air Base and many years at Rhea Wholesale. Her family was blessed to learn many valuable life lessons from her during her 95 years, among them: help others in any and every way you can and share your love of baking with them. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2019 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home officiated by Reverend Dr. Mary Beth Bernheisel with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, November 16th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She is survived by her brother, John T. Yarbro (Yvonne) of Dyersburg; step-daughter, Patricia Rickert Carroll (Mike) of Vero Beach, FL; her special niece, Linda Burnett (Alvin) of Newbern; and a host of nieces and nephews. Her nephews, Dent Yarbro, Jeff Holt, Roger White, David White, Tommy Tucker and Scott Tucker will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Sellers Sunday Class members, Mike Tucker, Henry Tucker and Steve Holt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph H. Rickert (9/6/99); six sisters, Mabel Yarbro, Stella B. Holt, Ebalee Yarbro Tucker, Jessie Jane Yarbro “Tootie” Williams, Judy Yarbro White, Mary Ruth Yarbro Gay; and four brothers, Mike Yarbro, Thomas I. Yarbro, George W. Yarbro and James Earkett Yarbro. Margaret Ivey Baker, 91, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at West Tennessee Healthcare - Dyersburg. Born July 31, 1928, she is the daughter of the late Murry and Ava Hughes Ivey. She was a case worker at the Unemployment office for many years. Mrs. Baker was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church. “Mawmaw” never missed a grandchilds or great-grandchilds school program, sporting event or church program. She enjoyed reading with them and loved them fiercely.

Born September 24, 1931 in Lauderdale County he is the son of the late Alton and the late Kate (Goodwin) Harrison. Mr. Fred was a heavy equipment operator and a long time member of Macedonia Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary (Phillips) Harrison, two daughters, Mary Ellen Booker and Katie (Franklin) Clark both of Ripley, TN. Mr. Fred also leaves a brother, Finis Harrison of Ripley, TN. He also leaves behind two grandsons, David Booker and Andy Booker and four great granddaughters, Leah Rhodes, Karlee Rhodes, Olivia Booker and Reese Booker. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Willie Clark and a son in law, Danny Booker. The funeral will be held 2:00 pm on Monday, November 4 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 6950 Edith Nankipoo Rd, Ripley, TN with Bro. Jerrell Dawson and Bro. Charles McKendree officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, November 3 from 5 -8pm at Macedonia Baptist Church. Prior to retirement Toy worked as a homemaker, flight instructor, church secretary, and real estate agent. Toy married Beuran Hicks on June 17, 1953 and he preceded her in death on August 2, 2004. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a sister, Fawn Lovlace and a granddaughter, Danielle Widdison Meyer Survivors include her children, Judy Carter of Columbia, MO, and David Hicks and his wife Deborah of Trinity, Alabama, five grandchildren; Kyle Widdison, Sierra Widdison Neal, Taylor Widdison, and Luke Widdison, one great-grandchild, Lily Neal all of Tennessee, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Allen Weaver, 74, of Dyersburg, died Wednesday morning at 12:30 am at AHC of Dyersburg Born December 9, 1944 in Dyer County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Bryant Weaver and the late Ethel Bass Weaver. He was retired from Colonial Rubber and a charter member of Holy Hills Baptist Church. After his retirement, Mr. Allen began his second career at Curry Funeral Home on April 24, 2007. His love for his work at Curry Funeral Home and the families we served, showed by his dedication in doing all he could which included anything from washing cars to working funeral services. Mr. Allen was such a kind hearted person and was the epitome of a true southern gentleman. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. He loved fiercely. This world is a little bit dimmer without him in it. He will be greatly missed.
