He is the son of the late Lottie Davenport. He was married to Marjorie Riley Davenport for over 35 yrs. Frank was a member of Holy Hills Baptist Church, the Dyer County Lions Club and also a Master Mason. He was a retired United States Air Force Veteran, serving more than 22 yrs. as a dental lab technician. He is survived by one step-daughter: Pam Smith of FL and one step-son: Chris Daugherty of Ripley, TN. He is also survived by a sister in law: Mary Davenport and a niece, both of Nashville, TN Frank also leaves behind 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was a former disc jockey during the 50s and 60s working at WDSG Radio Station where his “on air personality” was Snuffy Smith. Mr. Smith was a Master of Ceremonies at the Grand Old Opry where he was awarded D.J. of the Year in 1960. He was a former car salesman and worked at Dyersburg City Cab.

Paul Eugene Jacobs, 86, passed away in Dyersburg, Tennessee on October 5 after a brief illness. He was born and raised in Paris, Illinois, the youngest of five children. A talented athlete, he excelled in basketball and baseball for the Paris High School “Tigers,” later playing semi-professional baseball before enlisting in the U.S Army and serving honorably in the Korean War. After returning from the War, he completed a bachelors degree in chemistry at Indiana State University that launched a long and successful career in the plastics industry in Illinois and Tennessee. His interests included family genealogy, travel, and military history, especially of the Civil War. Paul was preceded in death by his wife Barbara. He is survived by two step-children, Patrick Sullivan of Seattle, Washington and Brigid Webb of St. Charles, Illinois, and three grand-children as well as numerous nephews and nieces and dear friends. He will be interred at a private ceremony in the family plot at Vermillion, Illinois.

He was born on April 24, 1928, in Finley, TN, to the late Cecil Anderson and Grace Yelvington Anderson. Surcy was a retired shift foreman for Dyersburg Cotton Products, where he worked for 51 years. He was a member of the Dyersburg Cotton Products Bowling Team, a member of Finley United Pentecostal Church and a member of "Victory Quartet", which members include: Surcy Anderson, Buck Moore, Peggy Farley, Ray Jones, Jr. and pianist Shirley Anderson. In 1991 at the age of 63, Surcy received his GED from Dyersburg State Community College. For 30 years he had mourned the death of his wife, Shirley and longed to be with her. God has now granted his request to join her and his loved ones who have gone on before.

He was a member of West Dyersburg church of Christ and spent over 36 years working for Colonial Rubber and M.A. Hanna Companies as a production foreman. In his retirement years, he stayed active as a newspaper delivery driver. He loved to be on the water, fishing and duck hunting. His family says that wherever he went, he never met a stranger. He especially loved being "Papaw" to all of his grand and great-grandchildren.

Pam's second career began at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital where she worked many years as a radiology technician.

Betty Lou Fielden Richardson, age 92, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018. Mrs. Richardson was born in Knoxville, TN on March 31, 1926. She moved to Dyersburg as a child where she spent her childhood and adult life. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class where she served as president of the class. She was active in XYZ in her church and served as president. Mrs. Richardson was also involved in various community activities including Dyersburg Women's Club and Dyer County Extension Club. She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother who was involved in the lives of those until her illness made that impossible.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at Dyersburg Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. and will be held in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Hickman officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Braese, Dr. Rob Braese, Blake Dycus, John Vickers, Jim Vickers and Danny Johnson.

Charles Rayburn “Charlie” James, 79, died Sunday morning, September 2, 2018 at his residence following a long illness. Born in Braggadocio, Missouri, he was the son of the late Gladys Laverne Rhodes James and Richard Edward James.

James enlisted in the United States Navy in 1960, serving 20 years before retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. While in the Navy, he received his GED and earned a B.S. from St. Leo College. On March 13, 1969, James led the retrieval of the Apollo 9 Lunar Module to the deck of the USS Guadalcanal, serving as the ships Flight Deck Officer for the mission. In 1977, he was awarded the Navys A-6 Intruder Maintenance Officer of the Year for the Eastern Seaboard Fleet. He retired from the Navy in 1980, but continued working as a consultant with the Navy. He was offered a job in Washington DC. But, Charles decided he wanted to be closer to his family.
