Janice Reaves Stafford

November 20, 1933 – January 23, 2016

Janice Reaves Stafford, 82, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Tennova Healthcare Dyersburg Regional. She was born November 20, 1933 to the late Harold and Geraldine Reaves. She was retired from Tennessee Department of Employment Security and was a columnist for The Dyersburg Mirror and the Dyer County Tennessean. She published a cookbook, From the Back Burner that became a local favorite. Proceeds from the sale were donated to the Dyer County Fair Association. Mrs. Stafford was an active member of First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sellers Sunday School Class and was instrumental in beginning the Homebound Communion program. After retirement, she was a Pink Lady beginning her tenure at Parkview Hospital and continuing thru 2002. She was a past board member of the Dyer County Volunteer blood program and an avid bridge player. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Dell King and Reverend Ed White with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jim Houston, Joey Pritchett, Tony Deere, Gerald Brandon, Freddie Wortman, Dr. Jim Caylor and Dr. Robin Algee. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 26th from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at the funeral home. She is survived by her daughter, Janie Stafford of Dyersburg; two sons, Bubba Stafford of Dyersburg, Tommy Stafford (Yvette) of Roseland, VA; and three grandchildren, Lauren Parker of Dyersburg and Adam and Peyton Stafford of Roseland, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Billie G. Born September 21, 1926 in Ridgely, Tn. he was the son of the late Jesse A. and Irene Mathis Barker. Mr. Barker was a retired 21 year veteran of the Navy, through WW2 and the Korean Conflict. He spent 13 years at Burroughs Corp. then night administrator at Shelby State College, Gill Campus.

Graveside services, with military honors, will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely, Tn. conducted by Reverend David Gray.

Woods, Sr. and Margaret Geneva Dowell Woods, he was an Air Force veteran. Woody was owner of Dyersburg Insulation and former owner of Daylight Donuts. He was a Baptist. Woody was an avid fisherman, loved a good game of cards and enjoyed life and entertaining his friends with his infectious smile and sense of humor. Oneida B. Armstrong, 96, of Knoxville, formerly of Tiptonville, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016.

She was a devoted member of South Knoxville Church of Christ. Oneida lived through two world wars and the Great Depression. She taught herself French and became close with many students from all over the world evaluating and instructing them in their bible lessons via the internet. She wrote poetry and painted in her free time, kept a garden, and loved taking walks. Oneida was beautiful.

Born August 20, 1955 in Memphis, TN, he was the son of the late Green Smitheal, Jr. and Laura Lee Drane Smitheal. He was a farmer, landowner, and a lifelong member of Dyersburg First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder and a member of the Robert T. Kerr Sunday School Class. Green was a 1973 graduate of Dyersburg High School and a 1977 graduate of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He was an Eagle Scout and achieved the level of Wood Badge. He served on the Board of Directors at First Citizens National Bank and the Farmers Co-Op and was a member of the Tennessee Agriculture Committee. Shirley Weichlein, 80, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Oakwood Community Living Center. Born August 1, 1935 to the late Lesley L. and Lilly Hancock Bayfield, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also preceded in death by her brother Lesley Bayfield of Cambridge, England. Shirley married Bill Weichlein in 1954 during the Korean War in Cambridge, England while he was serving in the United States Air Force. They originally settled in Kokomo, Indiana and then moved to Salem, Illinois and later Dyersburg, Tennessee; both with World Color Press. In 1993 the couple retired to Pahrump, Nevada but ultimately decided to call Dyersburg home. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William J. Weichlein; 1 daughter, Leslie A. Larson and husband Shawn of Gallatin; 1 son, Mark D. Weichlein and wife Sharon of Dyersburg; 1 brother, Ralph Bayfield, of England; 5 grandchildren, Kao Organ, Christian Clark, Taylor Larson, Sydney Larson, Anthony Hertel and wife Jeanna and 2 great-grandchildren, Xavier Hertel and Xander Hertel. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. James Harold Kerby, age 93, of Maury City died Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Jackson Madison Co. General Hospital of Jackson, TN. James was born February 4, 1922 in Lauderdale Co., TN. He is the son of the late William M and the late Mary Elizabeth (Frost) Kerby. He served in the United States Army. He was employed as a painter. He is survived by one daughter: Phyllis Jean Young of Maury City, TN; He also has two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his sister, Mary Kerby, sister, Annie Mae Doss, brother, Willie Kerby, brother, Raymond Kerby, brother, Finis Kerby. The funeral will be held 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 16 at Halls Funeral Home, 109 N. Church St., Halls, TN with Bro. Mike Young officiating.
