Dr. James H. Smith, 76, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Methodist Lebonheur Germantown. Born April 7, 1939 to the late Raleigh Nevin and Louise Heacker Smith in Oliver Springs, TN. He attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and graduated from UT College of Medicine in 1964. Dr. Smith was a retired Internal Medicine Physician and was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church. He was recruited to Dyersburg in 1969 by Dr. Jimmy Noonan and practiced with Dr. W.I. Thornton, Dr. William Craddock, Dr. William Murray and Dr. Don Connell. In 1975, Internal Medicine Clinic was formed by Dr. Doug Haynes, Dr. Ralph Reynolds, Dr. Jimmy Noonan, Dr. Dan Green and Dr. Smith. Two years later, Dr. Robin Algee joined the group. He practiced and saw patients at Parkview Hospital, Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, which is now Tennova Healthcare Dyersburg Regional. Dr. Smith served on the board of the Dyer County Health Department. He also worked, after retirement, at the Lake County Correctional Facility in Tiptonville. He was a long time member of the Antique Car Club. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church conducted by Reverend Gary Meade. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. in the Wheeler Room at St. Mary's Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna Miles Smith; his daughter, Joanna Smith Priester (Brad) of Jackson; his son, Joseph Nevin Smith (Joanna) of Germantown; 2 sisters, Virginia Haydon (Troy) of Loudon, TN, Susan Lowman (Bruce) of Franklin; 3 brothers, Dr. David Smith (Debbie) of Knoxville, Dr. Mike Smith (Rene) of Bartlett, Dr. Steve Smith (Margie) of Oliver Springs; his sister-in-law, Delores Smith of Newport; and 3 grandchildren, Halle Priester, Hannah Smith and Allie Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bob Smith. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1960, being active in the Fidelis Sunday School Class, a faithful prayer warrior of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry, and a member of the WMU, Faithful Women of Missions. She served as Historian of the 1942 Newbern High School graduating class. She retired from Heckethorn Manufacturing Company after serving 33 years as Credit Manager.

Dolphus Reasons, Jr., affectionately known as Da by his grandchildren, Tessa Rosenberg Kotch and Kyle Rosenberg, passed away in Germantown, TN on October 8, 2015. Dolphus, a former resident of Dyersburg, TN, moved to Germantown 8 years ago to live with his daughter, Vicki Reasons Rosenberg and her husband, Louis. Dolphus was married for over 50 year to his loving wife Sarah Reasons, who preceded him in death in 1995. Dolphus served his country while serving as a sergeant (Army) in Europe after the Normandy invasion. He loved farming and everything associated with his work. He mostly loved the many years that he was able to work with his two brothers, James (Lila) and Gerald (Virginia) Reasons, both of Dyersburg. Both brothers predeceased Dolphus. He was a lifelong member of Finley Methodist Church. Graveside services for Mr. Reasons will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 11, 2015 at Fairview Cemetery. Nyoka Ottinger, age 64 of Gates, passed away October 1st at her home. She was a graduate of Memphis State University. She was a former hairdresser and nurses aid. Nyoka was a Christian and a member of Elon Baptist Church. Nyoka was preceded in death by a son, Robbie Gillon, her parents Robert L. and Kathryn Lawrence and a sister Dorothy Lawrence. She is survived by her husband Mike Ottinger, her son and his wife, Johnny and Tina Gillon, all of Gates. Tina was like a daughter to Nyoka. She also leaves two stepsons, Jonathan (Gina) Ottinger and Sean Ottinger of Greeneville, six grandchildren, Drew Blakely of Ripley, Robert Gillon, Hayden Childress, Zach Gillon of Gates, Miranda (Carl) McGee of Greeneville and Cody Ottinger of California. Nyoka also survived by five great-grandchildren. She is survived by her Mother-In-Law Kathleen W. Ottinger and five brothers-in-law, Steve (Martha)Ottinger, Hal (Sandy) Ottinger, David (Gina) Ottinger, Phillip (Teri) Ottinger all of Greeneville, Kevin Ottinger of Newport and a sister-in-law, Kathy McCrary also of Greeneville. Nyoka is also survived by other relatives and friends, many lifelong. Nyoka was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sorely missed by her husband and family. He was the owner of Worley's Radiator and Auto Repair, and was an active member in the local Dyer County community. She was born in Parma, MO on April 21, 1925 to the late Fred Lizenbee and Ella Hoss Lizenbee. Velma was a very loving lady who had a contagious smile that showed she loved people and life. She worked in the public most of her life because she enjoyed being around people. After moving to Dyersburg in 2007, she immediately started volunteering as a pink lady at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center earning her 1000 hour pen. Velma enjoyed being with her family, especially all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very active in her church and loved the social circle at St. Joseph's Manor where she lived for the past 5 years. Every Thursday morning would find her at the Activity Center playing bingo and fellowshipping with friends. She was married to James Jones until his death in 1977 and remarried to Milford Allen in 1986, until his death in 2005. Funeral services for Mrs. Allen will be at 12 noon Wednesday, September 16, 2015, in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Reverend Loren Stephens. Harold E. Davison, 84, of Finley, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at his residence after an 8 month battle with cancer.

He was a retired farmer and a member of Finley Baptist Church. Mr. Davison was a former member of Emanuel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was devoted to his family and his career in farming. He was also a lifelong Harley Davidson enthusiast. After retiring, he pursued his interest in classic cars, as a member of Forked Deer Classic Car Club.

Robert Thomas Meeks, Sr, age 97, of Senatobia, MS died Monday, September 7, 2015 at home in Senatobia. Robert was born September 26, 1917 in Lauderdale Co., TN. He is the son of the late Thomas Calvin and the late Robbie Golden (McDearman) Meeks. He married Clarie Daphne Burroughs. He was a retired farmer. He is survived by three daughters: Pam Gary of Senatobia, MS, Brenda Camp of Senatobia, MS, Melody Stiek of Cabot, AR; ; Predeceased by his son, Robert T. Meeks Jr., son, Charles Edward Meeks. He also leaves 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be held 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 10 at Antioch Cemetery, Antioch Cemetery Rd., Halls, TN. . Danal L. Hotaling, 101, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 at his residence in Inverness, FL. Mr. Hotaling was born in Oneonta, NY on August 28, 1914 to the late Lynn G. and Maude (Smith) Hotaling. Co-founder of Colonial Rubber Works, Inc. of Dyersburg, TN in 1954, he was a natural leader who offered a family atmosphere to his employees, earning both the loyalty and the admiration of the Colonial Family. Mr. Hotaling also became a vital part of the Dyersburg community. He functioned as an active member of several college boards, including The University of Tennessee Development Board. He served as a member of First Citizens National Bank Board of Directors and was active in the development of the Dyersburg Community Center. Recognized by many throughout the years, he received his honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, in 1972. As an active golfer, he enjoyed "19 holes of golf" with his close friends. He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Horn and her husband Jim of Dyersburg and Suzanne Fuller of Inverness, FL. Other survivors include: the 4 grandchildren, Jim Horn and wife Beth, David Horn, Dana Drake and husband Bill, Kevin Fuller and wife Callie. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren: Monty, Miller and Samuel Horn, Ryley, Peyton and Ashlyn Fuller, Charlotte, Abi, Lola, and Leila Drake. Mr. Dan was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte (Orr) Hotaling in 1994 and his son-in-law, Dr. Jim Fuller in 2008. His wife, Suzanne (Reynolds) Hotaling, died in 2014. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home, conducted by Reverend Gary Meade. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Jim Carver, Terry Courtenay, Dan Felkner, Ralph Henson, Bob Kirk, Jere T. Kirk, Ralph Reynolds, Glenn Thurman and Wendell West. After marrying her high school sweetheart, Dr. Joseph E. Robinson, Jr. and raising their children, she attended college and seminary with her husband earning a bachelor's in Theology, a master's in Christian Education, a Ph.D. in Religion, and an honorary doctorate of Humanities.

She is the daughter of the late Flora (Crihfield) Ray. Ms. Daisy was a retired Site Manager for Wesley Park Meadows Apartments in Halls. She was also a former antique shop owner for many years. She is survived by four sons: Oliver (Mary Ann) Voss of Ripley, TN, Douglas (Joni) Voss of Ripley, TN, Wayne (Debbie) Voss of Greenwood, MS. and Mike (Deb) Voss of Ripley, TN. She also leaves a sister Florine Lehman of Ripley, TN. Ms. Daisy is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 2 great- great grandchildren. Ms. Daisy also leaves a sister in law Betty Ray of Ripley,TN. She was preceded in death by her brother, Don Ray. The family would like to express a special thank you to Deb Voss for the love and care that she provided Ms. Daisy. Sam T. Viar, Jr., 52, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, August 29, 2015 at his residence. He was born June 5, 1963 to Sam and Pat Viar. He was a teacher/trainer at the Bridges Program and mentored the mentally ill and victims of domestic violence. As a high school student in Georgia, Sam was named a Governor's Honors recipient for fluency in German. He was a talented artist, having one of his paintings chosen to hang in the Tennessee State Capitol. Sam was a gifted landscaper, with a love for and an exceptional knowledge of all green, growing things. He was an avid World of Warcraft enthusiast, through which he came to know hundreds of friends across the world. Sam is survived by his mother, Pat Viar of Dyersburg; his fiance, Tammy Marshall of Dyersburg; 3 sisters, Mary Jane Viar (Debbie) of Memphis, Vicki Viar (Dave) of Nashville and Laura Wallace (Doug) of Dyersburg; his nephew, Drew Goodwin of Nashville; his fiancee's parents, Jim and Robie Harries, sisters Wendy Marshall (Ray) and Teressa Williams (Don), all of Wakeeney, KS, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Samuel Tate Viar, and his grandparents, Walter and Edna Viar of Lenox, TN, and Sophia and Loren "Shorty" Steiger of Dyersburg. Memorial services will be at 1:00 pm, Thursday, September 3, 2015 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Dyersburg, conducted by the Reverend Gary Meade. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
