Henry Eli Jordan, Jr., 89, of Gates, TN died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at his residence. Mr. Jordan was active within the agriculture community as a landowner and partner in H.E. Jordan Farm Partnership with his two sons and President of Halls Gin Company. Mr. Jordan was a World War II Veteran serving in the United States Navy. He was a member at First Baptist Church of Maury City for over sixty years and served in several leadership roles within the church including deacon, Music Director, and Men's Bible Class teacher. Mr. Jordan leaves behind his loving wife of 67 years, Martha Juanita Tritt Jordan; four children, Marilyn Jordan Pounds (Miller) of Maury City, TN; Brenda Jordan Puckett (Donnie) of Madison, MS; Alan Jordan (Jennifer) of Gates, TN, and Jay Jordan (Shawn) of Gates, TN. Other survivors include five grandchildren: Arlie Pounds, Brad Pounds, Alexa Ray Jordan, Megan Jordan Uptain (Randy), and Bree Jordan. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren. Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Eli Jordan, Sr and Emma Ebbie Archer Jordan; sisters, Emma Lee Jordan Austin and Evelyn Jordan Reeves, and brother, James Finis Jordan. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 8:00 on Thursday, March 20th at Halls Funeral Home in Halls, TN. Services were held Friday, March 21st at First Baptist Church of Maury City, Tennessee with internment at Archers Chapel Methodist Church in Frog Jump, TN. Kenneth Wayne Shalap, 71, of Dyersburg, TN, formally of Mount Lookout, WV went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 after a short illness. Born on Dec. 22, 1942, in Elkins, WV, he was the son of the late John and Alwilda Shalap of Summersville, WV. His cherished memories are left to his companion of many years, Carolyn Sue Shaffer of Dyersburg, TN, formally of Mount Lookout, WV and her daughter Dawn Marie Darnell of Dyersburg, TN, brother Walter E. Shalap and wife, Gwen, of Sissonville, WV and their children Christina Hope, Dee Shalap and Bonnie Brost, along with a host of extended family and friends. Kenneth was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Summersville Lodge No. 76 AF-AM. He is best remembered for his decades-owned auto repair business, Shalap's Antiques on RT 19 in Summersville where his passion was the restoration and preservation of antique, vintage muscle cars and street rods. He won many awards over several states for his show cars and his favorite custom 31 Chevy street rod. He never met a stranger, or they weren't one for long. He will be dearly missed. Becky Ozment, 84, loving wife and mother, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at her residence. Every person who met her was greeted with a smile. She was always filled with love and concern for others. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, member of various church organizations, and an active volunteer at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, Union Mission, and working at the elementary schools with young children. She was formerly involved in Social Services, Human Resources and worked for Dyersburg State Community Service. Becky enjoyed golf, pickleball, bridge, tennis (in her younger years), skiing, gardening and travel. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, March 15, 2014 in the Sanctuary of First United Methodist Church conducted by Dr. Phillip Cook and Dr. David Russell. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Ozment, Albert Fowlkes, Richard Swain, Jerry Lock, John Talley and Bill Revell. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sewing Circle husbands and their spouses. Preceded in death by his father Wymond Oneal Terry Sr. Potchie was a humble man who worked hard to provide for his family. Lanny was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed ministering and singing to nursing home residents. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran of the Vietnam War with the 1st Marine Division.

Lila was born in Dyersburg, Tennessee on November 18, 1919 to Clyde and Bessie Burton. On November 8, 1937, Lila married James Alton Reasons, who preceeded her in death on September 3, 2009 after more than 72 years of marriage. Lila and James lived and farmed in western Dyer County, Tennessee. Lila moved to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania in late 2009 to be closer to family. She resided at Friends Home in Kennett Square. Lila is the mother of three sons: Kent of Kennett Square, PA; James A., Jr. (Jimmy),deceased; and Richard (Dick) Reasons, Des Moines, IA and their spouses Elaine Freeman, Martin TN, Judy Lee, Dyersburg TN, and Anne Leader, Signal Mt. TN. She is Grandmother to Kent's four sons: Scott ( Cindy), Greensboro, NC; Bryan (Carrie), Danville, CA.; Todd (Kerri), Horseheads, NY.; and Tyler (Renee), Garnet Valley, PA.; and Dick's children: Laura Elizabeth, Chicago, Il.; and Stuart (Jessica) Reasons, South Bend, IN.; great grandmother of eleven: Devin, Meghan, Katie, Kolby, Kevin, Lucas, Shane, Greyson, Kyle, Kayla and Kaitlyn; and sister to Dudley Burton (deceased), Glen Holt, Mary Francis Sorrell, Bob Burton, and Paula Moore. Lila's greatest pleasure was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and traveling to visit them on any and every special possible occasion, and there were many of these as, Kent and Dick as well as the grandkids have all moved around the U.S. as well as other countries. In addition to traveling to see the children, James and Lila traveled extensively with the Tennessee Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and the Rural Electrification Board where James served for many years. Lila enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, and cooking and for many years was an active member if the Finley Home Demonstration Club, where she gave of her time and talents through community outreach programs to support family development and enrichment. She was a member of the Richwoods Methodist Church and subsequently Finley United Methodist Church in Finley, Tennessee and attended First Baptist Church of Kennett Square, PA in recent years. Mr. James Lockhart, 94, of Dyersburg died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at The Highlands of Dyersburg. He was born and raised in Newbern, TN where he attended grade school and later schooled in Paducah, KY. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church where he was past president of Salt and Peppers Senior Group and Secretary/Treasurer for Vern Forcum Sunday School class. He was drafted in to the Army in 1941 and served 4 years in World War II in the Adjutant General's Headquarters, 2nd Army Command. He was later called to active duty with 323rd Engineer Light Equipment Division. In August, 1950 he was recalled into active duty during Korean Confilct and served until November 1951. He served 18 months in Korea and received 2 Bronze Stars. Upon discharge, he was a long time employee of Universal CTT Credit Corporation where he served as Vice President in charge of claims for their subsidiary Quality Adjustment Service. Upon their consolidation with Continental Insurance Company, he served as their Claim Manager until his retirement in 1982 from CNA Insurance Company. He was also an avid bridge player and often played in tournaments in Memphis and elsewhere. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, February 24, 2014 in the Sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church with Dr. David Russell officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Francis, Kevin Fuller, Chris Heckethorn, Bilroy Henderson, Jim Horn, Dr. Scott Self and Tim Vick. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Castellaw, Joe Dillon, Bill Drake, Gerald Edwards, Albert Fowlkes, John Gauldin, Dr. Jim McCord and Bill Ray. Edward "Jake" Wynn Estes, 88, of Kernersville, NC, formerly of Dyersburg, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Piney Grove Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born in Dyer County on April 22, 1925 to the late Harmon and Rosa Estes. Edward was a veteran of the U.S. Army in WWII. He retired from the U.S. Army Corps. of Engineers Memphis Office. Mr. Estes was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Kernersville, NC.

Lorene Sikes, 92, of Ridgely died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Reelfoot Manor in Tiptonville. She was a retired factory worker and attended the Baptist Church. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely with Reverend Clayton Mahan officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 12th beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time at Curry Funeral Home Ridgely Chapel. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Mary Alice "Marie" Gaines Sumrow, age 77, of Halls died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at The Bridge at Ridgley. "Marie' was born January 21, 1937 in Brownsville, TN. She is the daughter of the late John Dave and the late Myrna (Moore) Gaines. She was a homemaker and librarian for most of her life. Ms. "Marie" was the widow of the Late Edward Cecil Sumrow. She is survived by one daughter: Rose Marie Sumrow Fullen of Ripley, TN and two sons: Mike Sumrow of Ripley, TN, Tim Sumrow of Halls, TN; Sister of three sisters: Ann Gaines Parrish of Montgomery, AL, Jean Gaines Phillips of Mt. Juliet, TN, Nina Gaines Corlew of Natchez, MS; She also is survived by 4 grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, February 9 at Halls First United Methodist Church, Halls, TN with Bro. John Porter and Rev. Randy Jetton officiating. Burial will be in Halls Cemetery.
