Duke wore many hats. He was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a ball player, farmer, store owner, electrician and a carpenter. He was a county commissioner for 12 years. He was a sports person and liked to hunt and fish. He was a river worker and a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. Most of all, he was a Christian and a member of Jones Chapel Church of Christ. Duke was a good friend to all.

He was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division serving two terms in Vietnam. He attended the Dyersburg School System and Memphis State University. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed fellowship in the Koinanea Sunday School Class. Dave further involved himself in the area business community as a member of Dyersburg Rotary International. He served as club president for two terms and also received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. He served on the Dyersburg Board of Realtors, the Dyer County Equalization Board, was an initiated member of the local Masonic Lodge, and was a veteran of the Tennessee National Guard.

Mr. Charles E. Rice, 84, of Dyersburg, TN died Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. He was Church of Christ, an avid reader and lover of good music. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. Before entering the Army he was employed by the Frances Theatre of Dyersburg. Coming back to Dyersburg in 1956, Charles returned to the Frances and later when Bel-Aire Lanes (now J.C. Lanes) was built worked for both the theater and the bowling lanes. In 1979 Charles and Shirley purchased Ray's Liquors in Newbern.
