James Michael "Mike" Carmack, age 68, of Gates died Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Dyersburg Regional Hospital of Dyersburg, TN. Mike was born November 26, 1945 in Haywood Co., TN. He is the son of the late Winston and the late Pauline (Springer) Carmack. He served in the TN National Guard for 12 years. Mike retired from CN Railroad as a Signalman after 37 years of service. He is survived by his wife: Alice Faye (Lewis) Carmack and two daughters: Cindy Carmack of Laguna Niguel, CA, Kelly (Jim) Sipes of Manter, KS; Brother of two sisters: Patricia Howard of Bartlett, TN, Era Dyer of Bartlett, TN and four brothers: Jere Carmack of Jackson, TN, Tim Carmack of FL, Ronnie Carmack of Gates, TN, Pat Carmack of Gates, TN; He also has two grandchildren. grandson, Caleb Sipes; granddaughter, Bailey Sipes. The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 24 at Halls Funeral Home, 109 N. Church St., Halls, TN. Burial will be in Archer's Chapel Cemetery, Halls on Tuesday, December 24th. Ray Franklin Rohrer, 51, of Dyersburg and formerly of the Maryland area departed this Earth to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, December 13. Departing from Dyersburg Regional Medical Center, he was surrounded by family and friends in his final hours as he succumbed to a 14-month battle with cancer. Ray was born on December 13, 1962 in Washington. D.C. He is the son of Conrad "Connie" and Leona Rohrer of Silver Spring, Md.

Ray was known among his peers for his self-motivation, his sensitive spirit and his strong work ethic. Ray obtained his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland in Industrial Technology in December 1984. He immediately began a career in plant industry, first working as an engineer, before eventually moving into an operations role. Ray was in a plant management role for 20 years of his 28-year career, beginning with plants in Kentucky and Texas before moving to Tennessee.

Mrs. Dorothy Fowlkes Montgomery was born to the late Robert and Frances Gee on November 26, 1919 in Dyersburg, TN. In 1938, Mrs. Montgomery attended Mississippi Synodical College in Holly Springs, Mississippi and later continued her studies at Belhaven College in Jackson, Mississippi. Returning to Dyersburg, she worked as a Secretary in the Ewell Weakley and Clark Moss Law firm, and later with the Farm Security Administration's regional office in Raleigh, North Carolina. At the encouragement of her Father, she returned to Dyersburg where she married Jefferson Davis Fowlkes and both secured a position with Proctor and Gamble Defense Corporation in Milan, Tennessee. After WWII they returned to Newbern, TN to raise their family. In 1955 she, her husband Jeff, and her uncle George Gee, started Fowlkes & Gee Construction Company. In 1968 Mrs. Montgomery worked for the Tennessee Department of Welfare in both Child and Adult Divisions. In 1970 she started working for the newly built Dyersburg State Community College as Secretary to the Head Librarian. She retired from DSCC in 1985. She married the late Jack Montgomery of Newbern, TN in 1985. Mrs. Montgomery was a devoted 4th generation family member of First United Methodist Church in Dyersburg, TN. She was persistent in getting all of her children to church on time. At FUMC she served on the Administrative Board, the Board of Stewards and was a member of the Alma Potts Sunday School Class. She enjoyed tennis, golf, roller skating and snow sledding down Elm Street. She rarely missed a dance when the big bands played in West Tennessee. In 1941, Mrs. Montgomery became a charter member of the Dyersburg Cotillion Club and was active in a number of bridge clubs. For 18 years she served as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America Alumni Family. Funeral services for Mrs. Montgomery will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, December 14, 2013 in the Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. She is also survived by her step-children: Linda Vickers, Bill Montgomery, and Tom Montgomery. She was preceded in death by her step-daughter Mary Hodge. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Judy Brandon Owen, her husband, Gene Franklin Davis, Sr., and her son, Gene Franklin Davis, Jr. She is survived by one sister, Merle Brandon Mooney of Munith, Michigan and nieces and nephews Brandon Owen Gibson of Gadsden, Tennessee, Liz Mooney of South Lyon, Michigan, Rob Owen of Dyersburg, Tennessee, and Paul Mooney of Westerville, Ohio. Davis was active in her community and was a genealogist and historian. She served as the Lauderdale County historian for many years and wrote entertaining and informative articles for local newspapers. She also served on the Board of the Lauderdale County Library, and she previously served on the Tennessee Commission on Aging and the Tennessee Historical Commission. Davis was a member of the Lauderdale County Historical Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Key Corner Chapter, and The Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin, Captain Nicholas Martiau Chapter. She was active in the Poplar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and she dearly loved her community, her family, and her friends. Visitation for Mrs. Davis will be Tuesday, November 26, 2013 from 5 till 8 pm at Poplar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Halls. Services for Mrs. Davis will be conducted on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Poplar Grove Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lauderdale County Library or the Lauderdale County Historical Society.
