Mr. Thomas G. "Tommy" Tolley, 73 of Ridgley, TN, died Friday, September 18, 2009 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. He was retired from Colonial Rubber after 32 years of employment and a Navy Veteran. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2009 in the Ridgely Chapel of Curry Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Chessor officiating. Burial will be in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely. Curry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 pm - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 20th at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Mrs. Delores Cooper Tolley of Ridgely, 1 Daughter, Deborah Lacy & husband Danny of Finley, 1 son, William "Buddy" Tolley and wife Gail of Dyersburg, Brother-in-law, Danny Cooper of Newbern and 4 Grandchildren, Amy Lacy, Alisha Tolley, Ashley Tolley and Amber Tolley. He was preceded in death by his parents Mamie and Henry Tolley, 2 sisters, Elizabeth Cain and Pauline Howard and 2 brothers, Rayford Tolley and Robert Tolley. Velma Alford Sanders

Velma Alford Sanders of Dyersburg, died Monday, September 14, 2009, at Dyersburg Manor Nursing Center. Velma was born in Dyersburg, one of seven siblings born to Percy and Lucy Mustain Alford. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God with her most recent church home being the Cornerstone Church of God in Dyersburg. Velma, along with her father Percy Alford, her sister Louise Hamm, two of her brothers, Lester Alford and Lonnie Alford, her brother-in-law Adolphus "A" Hamm, and her sister-in-law, Katherine Alford were among some of the early employees of the old Dyersburg Cotton Products. Velma's employment with the "Cotton Mill" lasted over fifty years. The Sanders family will receive friends for visitation at Curry Funeral Home Tuesday night, September 15, 2009 from five until eight o'clock. Visitation will also be held Wednesday, September 16th from eleven until one o'clock at the Cornerstone Church of God on Lake Road, Dyersburg. Funeral services will follow at the church at one o'clock with Reverend Lynn Drumwright and Reverend B.L. Hart officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ken Alford, Adam Enochs, Chris Hamm, Keith Hamm, Tim Enochs, and Greg Alford. Honorary pallbearers are Deail Alford, Robert Epperson and Finis Davidson. She is survived by her son, Jerone Sanders and wife Pat of Dyersburg; one grandchild, Tisa Sanders of Dyersburg; and one great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Jackson of Dyersburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jewell Sanders; her parents, Percy and Lucy Alford; one sister, Louise Hamm; and five brothers: Lonnie Alford, Lester Alford, Reverend B.L. James Alton Reasons, 91, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 at St Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN. James was born October 26, 1917, raised and farmed for 50 years in the Richwoods Community of Western Dyer County. He married Lila Bess Burton in 1937 and they were married for nearly 72 years. James and Lila lived at Maple Ridge Assisted Living Center in Dyersburg for the past 18 months. In addition to his life long career as a farmer, he devoted many years of service to the agricultural advancement as a Soil Conservation Service Director, a County Committeeman for the USDA Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS), and a Member of the Board of Directors of the Forked Deer Rural Electric Cooperative. He was a long-time member of the Richwoods Methodist Church and then the Finley United Methodist Church. In addition to his wife of 72 years, Lila, James is survived by his two sons and their wives - Kent and Elaine Reasons, of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania and Dick and Anne Reasons of Des Moines, Iowa, six grandchildren, and nine great grand children. James was preceded in death by his son, James Alton "Jimmy" Reasons, Jr. and is survived by daughter-in- law, Judy (Lee Reasons) Curry who lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. Son Kent M. and Elaine Reasons, are the parents of grandsons, Scott K. (Cindy) Reasons, Greensboro, North Carolina, Bryan M (Carrie) Reasons, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, Todd A (Kerri) Reasons, Horseheads(Ithaca), New York, and Tyler L. (Renee) Reasons, Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania. Son Richard L(Dick) and Anne Reasons are the parents of granddaughter Laura Elizabeth Reasons (Daniel Schobel), Chicago, Illinois and grandson Stuart L (Jessica) Reasons, Nashville, Tennessee. Great grand children are: Devin and Meghan (Scott); Lucas and Shane (Bryan); Katie, Kevin, and Kolby (Todd) ; and Kyle and Kayla (Tyler). James is also survived by his 2 brothers Dolphus Reasons, Jr. and Gerald H. (Virginia) Reasons both of Dyersburg. James was preceded in death by his parents Dolphus and Edna Holt Reasons of Finley. Edna was born one of nine children Monday, April 8, 1940 in Lenox, Tennessee to Gladys and Cletus "Snowball" Snow. She was a regular member of the congregation of the Lenox Church of God of Prophecy while living in Lenox. Not only did she love tending to her flower garden, her greatest joy was preparing a delicious home-cooked meal for her extended family. Mary Martha Shull Phebus, 81, of Memphis, formerly of Ridgely, died Saturday, August 8, 2009, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center in Dyersburg. She was a retired secretary for Faxon-Gillis Home Builders in Memphis and a member of Bartlett United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2009, at the Ridgely Chapel of Curry Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. in New Haven Cemetery in Ridgely with the Rev. Larry Humbert officiating . Survivors include a son, Jeff Phebus of Bartlett; a sister, Laverne House of Ridgley; a brother, Jerry Shull and wife, Carolyn of Ridgely; and a sister-in-law, Ruth McCastlin of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Garland and Estelle Bargery Shull; her husband, Norman Phebus; and two brothers, Nard Calvin Shull and Harry Shull. Pallbearers will be Brandon Badgett, Dustin Badgett, Bob Shull, Larry Patterson, Andy Shull, Jake Yoes, and Ken Hickman. Honorary pallbearers will be Teroy Shull, Aaron Staulcup, Jim Shull, Steve McCastlin, and Mike McCastlin. Mrs. Bessie H. Tucker, 95, of Dyersburg, died Saturday, August 08, 2009 at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. A woman of faith and strength, who raised herself and her family amid simple and poor circumstances, sacrificing for her children, her children's children and theirs. At her last, at 95 years of age, she remained a faithful and loving grandmother and true daughter of God. She died peacefully surrounded by family and friends. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 11th at Southside Baptist Church with Reverend Loren Stephens officiating. Betty Lou Runion Roberts, 76, Dyersburg, TN died Friday, August 07, 2009 at Dyersburg Manor. She was born December 4, 1932 in Miston, Tennessee to the late Charlie H. and Eva Bottoms Runion. She was the third of six children. Funeral services for Mrs. Roberts will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Second Baptist Church conducted by Reverend Ronnie Turner and Reverend Johnny Welch. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Todd Geijer, Dean Armour, Kevin Joslin, Anthony Parham, Jim Gray and Pat Heinz. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 5-8pm at Curry Funeral Home. She had been a Christian since her early youth and was a member of the Second Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She was very interested in genealogy and along with her sister and daughters located the countries of origin of many of their ancestors. She had also been a member of the PTA. She married James V. Roberts on November 28, 1948 and he preceded her in death. She is survived by 3 daughters: LaRinda (Bobby) Middleton, Tuscumbia, AL, Lynne (Guenter) Ruthsatz, Linden, TN, and Eva Lynne (Steve) Rogers, Dyersburg, TN. She is also survived by 1 sister; Jane (Paskel) Harmon from Pegram, TN, 4 brothers; Hurschel (Marie) Runion, Tiptonville, TN, Bobby (Roberta) Runion, Lawrenceburg, TN, Donnie (Julia) Runion, Goodlettsville and Damon (Gail) Runion, Memphis. Robbie Jean Rice, 75, of Dyersburg, died Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Pemiscot County Hospital in Hayti, Mo. Born at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Mrs. Rice moved to Dyer County in 1959 where, in addition to performing her homemaking duties, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Dyersburg, a volunteer at Parkview Hospital, and a Cub Scout den mother. Graveside services for Mrs. Rice were held Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009 at Fairview Cemetery with the Reverend Perry Grills officiating. She is survived by her daughter, Laurie Caudill and her son, Ernest "Quad" Rice, IV and wife Tammy Tucker Rice all of Dyersburg. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
