Nancy P. Craig, 83, of Dyersburg, died Sunday, January 21, 2018 at her residence. Born July 30, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Kathleen Peek. Upon graduation from high school, she began working for Ford Construction Company. She retired after 47 years of service as Corporate Secretary and a member of the Board of Directors. In Nancys honor, her employer named a towboat, the MS NANCY C, which plies the Mississippi River and its tributaries. She was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Dyersburg Womans Club, Dyersburg Dyer County Senior Citizens Association and The Red Hats.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church conducted by Reverend Cory D. Williams with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Patricia also leaves 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by three brothers, Larry Land, Lynn Land and Steve Land. She was a member of Hurricane Hill UMC. Bernice Edward Crain, 91 of Halls, farmer and former Lauderdale County Assessor of Property, passed from this life, Wednesday, January 18 after a long illness at his home. Mr. Crain was born September 6, 1926 in the Cedar Grove Community, Lauderdale County, TN. Mr. Crain was a World War II Army Veteran and served in Company I, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division during the Battle of Okinawa. His unit was transferred to Korea where they were responsible for taking down the Japanese colors and raising the American flag. He left the army as a Sergeant. Mr. Crain enjoyed many reunions over the years with members of his unit and was one of two surviving members of his unit prior to his death. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Armour Crain, his parents, Roy and Lillie Mae Tillman Crain, and a brother, Lawson Crain. He is survived by brothers Floyd (Joann), Jerry, and Neal (Martha) Crain, one sister Mary Ann (Oliver) Voss, all of Ripley, and brother, Billy Crain of Halls, a stepdaughter Becky McWilliams of Halls, step grandchildren Barry (Linda), Monty (Jessica), Ricky Joe (Jenny) and step great-grandchildren Jeff, Blake, Molly, Lizzie and Ellie McWilliams. Mr. Crain grew up in the Flippin community and upon returning from World War II settled into farming. Not only did Mr. Crain farm himself, he served his community by working in various agriculture related professions and served on several agricultural boards. He was elected to serve as Lauderdale County Accessor of Property from 1972-1988. Services are set for Sunday, January 21 with visitation from 12:30-2:30 at Halls 1st United Methodist Church, funeral to follow at 2:30. Interment will take place at Ripley Memorial Gardens. Kenneth Jones, 63, of Dyersburg, died Thursday, January 18, 2018 at his residence. Born November 23, 1954, he was the son of the late Howard and Mary Owens Jones. Ken graduated from Christian Brothers High School in Memphis in 1972. He studied biology at Notre Dame, received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Wildlife Fisheries from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1978, and received his Master of Science in Wildlife Science from New Mexico State University in 1981. He was a retired associate professor of biology at Dyersburg State Community College, where he taught for twenty years. Upon retirement from Dyersburg State, he worked as a reporter for the Dyersburg State Gazette and was teaching part-time at the University of Tennessee at Martin.Ken was involved from 2003 thru 2009 with the Population Survey of the Interior Least Tern, a bird that was placed on the endangered species list in 1985. During this study, Ken traveled the Mississippi River documenting the Tern birds, while teaching about and sharing his love of the River. Ken was an avid outdoorsman and lover of all animals great and small. He will always be remembered as one of the great raconteurs of the area, always being able to entertain with a great story. He appeared often on stage in local theater productions and kept his harmonica handy to entertain friends and strangers. He was also well known in the area for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in many educational endeavors over the years. Ken was a member of First Christian Church and an active member of a Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Jeanne Holt of Dyersburg.

Born August 2, 1943, he was the son of the late Charles Alfred Finley, Sr. and Jane Weakley Finley. Mr. Finley attended Murray State University and the University of Tennessee. He was a farmer, cattleman, and landowner. Mr. Finley was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church and had served in the the Air National Guard stationed in Memphis. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 21, 2018 in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Ed White with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery. Dr. Jim Caylor, Brandon Leslie, Lee Schultz, and Tommy Weakley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Ewell, John W. Hart, Claude Lecklitner, Ben Ragan and Jack Todd. The Finley family will receive friends Sunday, January 21st beginning at 12:30 p.m. until service time in the Chapel of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kathy Stevens Finley; one daughter, Holly Finley Hester; one son, Charles Alfred “Chip” Finley, III (Lori); four grandchildren, Finley White Leslie (Brandon), Claire White, Elizabeth Finley Schultz (Lee), Rachel Finley; and one great- grandson, Samuel Lee Schultz. Born June 23, 1945, he was the son of the late John Cecil and Georgia Adell Griffin Allen. He was a member of Newbern First Assembly of God and a retired Branch Manager Supervisor for Wonder Bread. Mr. Allen proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Funeral services will 1:00 p.m., January 15, 2018 at Newbern First Assembly of God conducted by Pastor Lyndel Fisher with interment to follow in Obion Chapel Cemetery.

James Rodney Henry, 71, of Dyersburg, TN, joined the heavenly choir on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at The Bridge at Ridgely. He was born in Ames, IA to returning WWII veteran James (Jimmy) Rudell Henry and Charlotte Stewart Henry on March 12, 1946. He was raised in Bruce, MS and later attended Mississippi State University, as did his father and two of his sons. Rodney was a member of the Famous Maroon Marching Band. His love for everything Mississippi State ran so deep that it was believed he bled maroon.

Rodney met Karen Walters in Memphis, TN on a blind date arranged by mutual friend Betty Crocker. They wed in September of 1970 and moved to Dyersburg in 1976 where Rodney joined Bob Newbill in what would become the accounting firm Newbill and Henry CPAs. Rodney loved and enjoyed his clients and their families all 40 years that he practiced.
