Mrs. Minnie Louise Sudbury Nash, 95, of Friendship, passed away Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Bells Nursing Home. Mrs. Nash was a retired homemaker and avid quilter. She was a long-time member of Miller's Chapel Church of Christ in Bonicord.

She is survived by her son, W.C. "Buck" Nash and his wife, Linda, of Friendship and two daughters; Susie Summerlin and her husband, Bill, of Friendship and Lena Gilliland and her husband, William Lee, of Chestnut Bluff; a brother, Larry Sudbury as well as six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren

States Viar

January 25, 1925 – August 13, 2015

States Viar passed away on Thursday, August,13th in California. Anyone old enough to remember him would have known him as "Tater" Viar. Born and raised in Lenox, he answered our country's call during World War II and joined the Army Air Corps. He flew as a ball turret gunner in B-24 Liberators, flying out of Africa and southern Italy. States and his crew survived bombing raids over such dangerous targets as the Ploesti, Romania, oil fields. States was married to the late Billie Joyce Dunn of Dyersburg. They were the parents of three daughters, Lynn, Patricia and Lisa as well as three sons, Richard, Craig and Jeffrey. States also leaves behind six grand-children, and four great grandchildren. States was a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where he lettered in baseball. Predeceasing States were sister Marjorie Viar Craft and brothers Walt, Sam and Bobby Joe. Survivors include his sister Sally Viar Thompson and brothers Paul and John. States' ashes will be interred at Fairview Cemetery in a private ceremony on October 9, 2015. Born on December 9, 1918 in Crockett Co., TN. to Mary Lucy and James Preston Braden. She attended the Antioch Church of Christ faithfully for many,many years. She was an avid gardener, growing and selling, nationwide, over 1600 varieties of Iris and Daylillies. The mention of her name to many people brings back memories of rows and rows of beautiful Irises. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Meeks and her only child, Danny Meeks in 1978. She was also preceded in death by a sister; Crystal Nichols and two brothers: Guy Braden and James Braden. Born July 17, 1931 to the late Wilmer and Lottie Godwin Stafford, he was a USDA Plant Protection and Quarantine Specialist and the manager of Calcutt Farms for 55 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Seller's Sunday School class and the Men's Choir. He was a charter member of Dyersburg Breakfast Rotary Club where he served as Treasurer and was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a red coat volunteer at the hospital, board member of Dyer County Literacy Program, a past-president of the Dyer County Fair Association, a past president of the UT Alumni Association and an Air Force veteran. Funeral services for Mr. Stafford will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Dell King and Reverend Ed White. Ernest Jason "Hoss" Joyce, 40, of Ridgely, died Thursday, July 23, 2015 at his residence. He was born March 18, 1975 to Patsy Lou Markham Joyce and the late Ernest Junior Joyce. He was disabled. Funeral services for Mr. Joyce will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2015 in the Ridgely Chapel of Curry Funeral Home conducted by Brother Clayton Mahan. Interment will follow in New Haven Cemetery. James Henry Koonce Jr., age 71, of Paris died Monday, July 20, 2015 at Jackson General Hospital of Jackson, TN. James was born April 1, 1944 in Ripley, TN. He is the son of the late James Henry Koonce, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Lorene (Stillman) Koonce. He was a Truck Driver. James is survived by two daughters: Bridgette Brown of Friendship, TN, Angela Smith of Gates, TN and two sons: Phil Hastings of Halls, TN, David Koonce of Dyersburg, TN; Brother of one sister: Linda Smith of Chapel Hill, TN; James also has 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren.
